No? Raw files do not contain colors. The input profile for the raw does. Raw files do produce different data from the same colors compared to raw files from different cameras, but there's no actual color in them. They're monochrome grids. A program running an algorithm uses an input profile to guestimate color from the monochrome grid.
Most editors have a totally flat profile to start from plus a editor specific interpretation and a few camera matching profiles that replicate SOOC jpegs. Capture one, for example, is known for their very good input profiles that are like camera matching+.

Those cameras are just beginner-priced modes of entry that offer a lot of flexibility vs. other cameras. A gear chaser would opt for something like the Sony ZV-E1, which offers a whole lot of compromise, awful colour science and a few gimmicks for 2500 bucks upwards.

I don't actually think that's true. At a certain point (iirc like 26mp) Instagram will reject the file for being too big, so I did an experiment where I downscale it to 20mp vs a 2mp (1080p) file and the smaller file was very soft in comparison. Letting them do the compression for you results in higher image quality. Given that the differences are going to be less drastic than that, it should preserve the differences between them.

But then again I don't believe that android cameras would look significantly better to begin with, all phone cameras look like shit

That can be a valid argument for going that direction. I would say that you can learn to post process your digital files to look like old time B&W and Kodachrome. (Kodachrome would actually be harder.) But in the case of B&W, an easy path to getting that look is to simply do what they did. Use an emulsion close to what they had (if available, LF film choices are getting thin). Develop like they did. Print like they did. At the very least that would be a lot of fun and you should end up with a very similar result.

Sorry, I shouldn't have been so curt. I would search Flickr. Search on the T/S lenses you're interested in, B&W. Also search on descriptive phrases like "B&W city architecture FF digital." You're bound to run into a style that's close enough at least to compare.

When I went through the WWII 4x5's many were portraits and I was comparing to my own shots on a 5Ds. And, again, those 4x5's are gorgeous, and Kodachrome's palette can be difficult to emulate. They represent an era. So artistically I'm not comparing anything I've done to them. But technically, resolution/sharpness/tonality, 5Ds RAWs edges them out. That surprised me at the time, but makes sense given the time period. A 4x5 can certainly edge out even an A7R V today. You have to print very large to see it, but it can.

If I seem like I'm pushing digital it's only because the cost/workflow advantages are so huge. And it's not like the early 2000's when LF would blow a 6mp DSLR out of the water. If you know what you're getting into with LF in terms of cost and time, and want to experience it, want to try and make photographs the way they did, then go LF.

Video quality is very meaningless, fyi, most people literally can not view 4k video as actual 4k, their display software will downsample or otherwise interpolate it. Unless you are shooting for a professional job it's literally just the color space changing. Remember these retards are zooming in on 2mp/8mp video frames. Which are usually motion blurred.

Holywood even tolerates rolling shutter dramatic enough for gunfire to illuminate only half the screen.

Wanted to add that some sensor crops also involve downsampling as >>4307796 pointed out. Personally, I don't like sensor cropping since you lose out on some of the benefits of the larger sensor.

Just to reiterate, unless you really need 1080, just use 4K since most modern cameras downsample from the full sensor in normal 4K modes these days (apart from a few super high resolution cameras).

But if you are like me and want 60p with full sensor readout, then options drop fast. A7SIII, R6 Mark II, and R8 and maybe some of the flagships for full frame. R8 has no IBIS though. APS-C has the X-H2S and A6700. m43rds has most of the GH series and the G9s. Oddly, the 1 inch cams don't do this outside of maybe some smartphones/action cams.

idk, I never watched anything or read any books but from my experience shooting portraits the most helpful things have been to compliment the model and never verbalize anything negative even if it's about you and the camera. Try to talk and banter, have a good time, be friendly. Bringing a bluetooth speaker for some background noise can also help things be less awkward

Scouting locations before hand is good. The more confident you seem while on the shoot the better the models respond

You can look up posing stuff for ideas but personally none of that ever sticks in my head when I'm out on the shoot and I just treat posing someone the same way I'd construct any other frame.

good. take more portraits until you can see what kind of portraits you want to make, what portraits you like, and then your portraits will be like no one else's. the best way to take good photos is to take a lot.

however, I have done some work (read: about three days worth with the owner of a clothing store in a nearby city) with models and the number-one thing I remember from it was how the guy there (who'd been working in fashion for decades) kept telling the models to pose and they would just do it. it seemed like the models already knew how they wanted to look on camera so all he had to do was get them to strike their next pose when he was ready. poses in portraiture may not be what you like. I don't know. maybe you really just like plain faces.

I did learn another thing from one of my photography instructors at community college. He said you can cut off the forehead but never the eyebrows or anything below that. Next, he said you never cut anyone off at their joints; only cut them out of frame on a limb. that helps you frame extreme close-ups (cut-off at the neck), close ups (cut off beneath the shoulders) and medium shots (cut-off below the elbows and either above or below the hips). it could be a bullshit rule but it helps me make decisions so you could use it too.

Last thing, and I learnt this from another instructor: you need to take 10 000 photos to get a good one.
