I've been trying to get into pinhole cameras lately. Does any anon here ever practiced solargraphy? Need some tips and tricks.

Here's the one taken with the left one.

Pictures were digitized with a regular DSLR with two lights pointing the photo paper in a 45 degree angle. Exposure checked with a gray paper beforehand.

How long did you expose these for? Judging by the sun rings I'd guess around 3-4 weeks, right? Also, did you develop them or just scanned them as they are?

>>4313334
I wonder where did those white marks come from
>>
>>4313704
About three weeks is correct, since the exposing time was tied to the duration of the course. I scanned them as they were, no need to develop solarographs.

I know some people do develop solargraphs but if I recall correctly that's if you just use one of those semi-diy pinhole boxes for 20-30 seconds of exposure.

Film photography is chemistry

Obviously I still use my MILC, but literally iphone cameras are fucking perfect for photography in general. You can even shoot RAW and have 3 native focal lengths to choose from (3 different lenses).

If the old magnum photographers could choose between an iphone or their clunky 50s film cameras they would've chosen an iphone 9/10 times.

The only non-nigger manufacturer you're talking about are Xperia phones with their pro camera apps. They even have a two-stage button where a half-press triggers auto-focus (just like a real camera!). Otherwise, you can map the volume buttons but still no AF half-press.
>>
>>4308104
post-processing (typically mitigated by shooting in RAW) and cancerous ergonomics. You have most of the controls available to you on most camera apps these days but you have to use a touchscreen to adjust anything at all.
Also, you look like a sad faggot taking creepshots when using a phone.

imo, either use your phone or go at least aps-cope/cuck/crippled/cringe/castrated, no point in going below that if you want kinda serious shots

>flimsy pieces of shit
>make the camera bigger, doesn't fit into bags as well
>gets in the way of shooting things close like bugs
>looks goofy
>if you don't need it but want to have it accessible then you put it on backwards and it gets in the way, affects the handling
>if you don't need it and want to have it accessible and not use the method above you have to keep it somewhere and it's bulky and flimsy and could easily get broken in a bag

Does anyone even use these things?

i left the hood on my one lens that came with one. it's relatively small so i don't mind it too much. my other lenses lack hoods, which doesn't matter most of the time. only when it rains do i wish i had a hood
>>
Only if I know I'm going to be shooting with the sun up high. Otherwise, no.
>>
>>4313525
I use them on most of my lenses.
Incidentally, the only (two) lenses I've dropped didn't have hoods on them and probably would have been fine if they did.

I always use lens hoods. get a big enough bag and you won't have to reverse them for storage.

Fuji simply because they suck. Its a rare case where there is a such thing as bad gear and a pricy camera actually has worse IQ - such things have been unknown since the death of the canon DSLR.

Fujifags seethe hard about nice gear too, like they think good image quality is a bad thing and you shouldnt even have the option. They are all aged 20-30 and do not know that most film is significantly higher resolutiom than an xt5 because all they ever saw was walmart 4x6s
>>
>>4310716
fuji for sure
looking at brands in terms of general "why would I not use them" points, can think of the most for fuji, but i can also think of a lot of niche "why would I use them" points
they're really only ideal for a very specific set of niche preferences, and sub-optimal for most
other brands feel like their better general purpose options, or have 1-2 clear usage cases
the mass normie popularity (and inventory issues) probably gives a sour grape feel to people who might otherwise be ideal users, similar to leica
definitely seems to inspire the most hate here for sure, its just a shame people cant be honest about the faults without exaggerating or relying on more dubious criticisms

pretty crazy how much the sentiments have changed though, they used to be seemingly universally liked, even here
still one of my favorite brands to use though, but most people are better off looking elsewhere

very cool and well-framed photo anon. I like that every side of the house is captured with something around it (grass, trees or sky) to frame it. you could warm up the white balance a little though to remove the banding around the edges of the tree and the roofline. yeah, I had another look. the white balance is definitely too cold. oh yeah, I also remembered that you should have moved left (maintaining the same distance from the house) to simultaneously elongate the horizontal dimensions of the house and remove the awkward bit of road in the bottom right. still though, you’ve done well to identify this composition anon. well done.

Hello, I want to start taking pictures but I only have +-200$.
Interested mostly in photography, but it would be nice if it could still shoot video not bad as an add-on

I've seen some videos on YouTube where the GH2 (hacked) showed pretty good quality, is it worth getting it or are there any better choices? What would you recommend for a beginner?

Thanks in advance

Use at least 50mm lens (around 80mm is best) or you'll look like shit. If shooting with a phone, zoom in 2-3x since the normal lens is usually equivalent to 24 to 35mm range.
If you don't have lights, do it if a cloudy day to get diffuse light. Sit or stand dead on towards light source (eg. window). Try around noon. Don't even think about shooting with artificial lights that are not studio lights or flashes (like household bulbs, especially CFLs or LEDs), it will look like shit.
Or just don't be a cheap shit and pay $15 to a teenager at CVS to have it done semi-completely.
>>
How is this such a burning question that warrants so much debate? Find a white or very light wall. Try to position a light source so that there isn’t a big shadow behind you.
Take a selfie.
If you need to make changes to dimensions or erase shadow or lighten up the wall to white, most basic photo editing software can do this easy.
I haven’t done a US passport renewal yet, but most countries have switched or have digital forms with photo upload options, so you don’t even need to special print the photos anymore.

Ordered a telescope on eBay a few weeks ago and it was the first clear night in weeks last night. With no experience using telescopes or space photography, managed to capture this with my iPhone held up to the eyepiece - no tripod.

Was really quite enjoyable setting up and trying to capture it and would like to do more of it.

So, any recommendations for starting gear, tripods, applications, any information you could give basically would be greatly appreciated!!

I can tell you definitively that this is a shit image, but whether that's due to "ai slop" in your phone or just general overbaking denoising+sharpening applied I can't say.

The ridiculous banding is what jumps out and screams "shit image, shit shit shit, bad bad!" but yes the "fine details" (there are none) are also shit here.
I don't know what to say other than you must shoot RAW, and avoid proprietary "special"RAW formats and stick with regular RAWs.

Not much going on
>>4313214
Frustrating composition (cutoff chair and lady, random thing in top left)
>>4313215
Pretty nice. Maybe too much going on, I might've tried to get the building out of the composition but I like this one.

Keep it up.

Yea no one is paying $50 for a bunch of light leaked out of focus crap sorry. My GRIIIX can upload right to my phone for a quick tweak in LR Mobile and post. The workflow and IQ is amazing for such a small camera that can fit right in my pocket. Have fun waiting on your "scans" to then edit for 2 hours each haha.

film simulators are for retards who son't shoot film and never have or never got drum scans or scanned themselves with good equipment
essentially these are FroPack presets (lol) built into some meme digicams and the retards eat it up

35mm film has 2-3 times the resolution of a ricoh gr and 2-3 more stops of dynamic range

The ricoh gr is stuck in the days when digital wasnt just less soulful - it was lower quality and “solid state” meant “choppy, harsh computery crap” instead of “tolerable but boring and emotionless simulation”.

kiddos born in the early 2000s like awful digital photography because it reminds them of their childhood (back in 2012) and nothing else

if you were born before or after that it sucks and if you were born after that please leave. 12 year olds not wanted here.

1/8000 shutter speed
is
1/14 shutter speed
on nikon z7
each row collects light for 1/8000th of a second
but it takes 1/14th second to sample top row to bottom row
so the overall process, of rolling shutter, makes it a 1/14th shutter speed

you need mechanical shutter to compensate
or CCD
or a nu-global shutter CMOS

cameras have been cucked unnecessarily for so long
rolling shutter is ridiculous

>The phone can get something in focus without a 1 second delay
lol no

>You need mechanical shutter
Well then, problem fucking solved.

Now what's the point of paying out the ass for a global shutter sony when
1: It has the dynamic range of a micro four thirds camera, so bad sony has clear noise reduction cooked into their raws to make the SNR *LOOK* like its only as bad as APS-C (to be fair they are not the only one, canon does a similar thing with... literally every EOS R, usually at low ISOs but its every ISO on the R3, olympus apparently forces color noise reduction in raw and denoising and moire reduction is normally a baked in part of demosaicing xtrans)
2: RED ALREADY HAS AN APS-C GLOBAL SHUTTER SENSOR WITH SEVERAL STOPS MORE DYNAMIC RANGE THAN THE BEST POSSIBLE FULL FRAME CAMERA YOU CAN BUY, FOR THE SAME PRICE, AND IT SHOOTS 16 BIT RAW (IS JAPAN EVEN FUCKING TRYING?)
(hot takes ahead, some plane spotting autist might be mad, and some gearfag autist whose ego is based on racking up debt to buy an R3 might be madder)
3: The readout of a mechanical shutter, or a MS-speed eshutter (Z8, R3) is already excessively fast for anything but specific motorsports, which is honestly a boring, soulless non-artistic waste of time of no more value than blurry phone snaps taken of the exact same thing and you should feel bad for being enough of an autistic bugman to want to photograph it with a $6000 camera.
4: Anything over 10FPS is of 0 use for anything but PROFESSIONAL sports photography where things like the very moment a golf club hits a ball are valuable. Again this is a soulless endeavor. it is impossible for it to be art. you should feel bad for wanting to photograph this. This is the domain of engineers playing with high speed cameras that they would normally use for testing and research making an appearance on an informational youtube video/mythbusters or some shit, not "REAL" photographers (artists). Perhaps 12fps, but much faster and we're getting into the territory where strobes recycle times can't keep up.

>RED ALREADY HAS
*Nikon already has

RED just asked for the sensor, towejazz designed and built it. Then Nikon asked for RED and everything they had, including their supplier contracts with towerjazz.
