Nah it's fine
it's not a small lens, but it's a normal sized modern lens scaled down
It's got all the bells and whistles of an L of Art series lens, it's a complex construction optic

A bit big, but the WR and reliability of the quality may make it worth it to you

Don't know if I'd buy it again though, because I'm not sure I need all that, but then again now that I'm thinking about it, I can't really find another lens to fit this exact high-end niche

I love it for being a reliable brick with silent and fast autofocus, it's solid, it'll work in the rain snow or cold, and it has a fucking great feeling aperture ring

In conclusion, a bit heavy, a bit big, but it makes up for it in quality.
Do I need that much quality? Dunno
Do I want it when I'm travelling or shooting an event? Hell yeah

I got the Sigma because I enjoy the 18-50 zoom so much. Compact with the same solid build quality. Images look fine to a pleb like me.
>>
>>4310120
Is there any chance Sigma makes a 70-200(eq.) f2.8 for APSC in line with these zooms? Or is that not really feasible? The Fuji 50-140 f2.8 is large and expensive, given that it's a 'red badge.'

Ansel Adams used to tilt the plate is his cameras in order to get his entire photo in focus at once, regardless of the depth of field. Now we all just go to the highest f stop value possible and shoot for the best. Alternatively some with set up with a tripod, and take 10 photos of the same exact scene with different focus points, and blend them all into one picture in photoshop. Others hate the concept and prefer a visual reference to the depth of field with an area clearly in focus and an area that is clearly not. This then begs the question, is focus better long range or up close?
I played around with the concept a bit. I took two pictures, one just as far back as possible, and then another on the close foreground. I did this trying to see which style I liked better. Personally I like the foreground in focus, but the other person I asked preferred the shot with the background in focus.

so what do you guys think? do you have a preference? Or do you like the Incel Adams "everything in focus" approach?

both shots are shit but the first one is WAY BETTER than the second one.

second shot with everything in focus is too busy especially in your case where every fucking thing in the image is the same color, same shape and all bunched up together. only an artless retard would prefer the second shot over the first one

Is it truly possible to learn to have aesthetic/creative/artistic (or whatever word you want to use) vision, and intent with your photos? I’ve been taking snapshits sporadically for the better part of 20 years now (pops game me an ae1 in middle school), but I don’t think I’ve ever taken any really great pictures.
>picrel, Ken Rockwell sliders applied to mediocre snapshit
My pictures seem to be more, just what I see, essentially just capturing the world as it exists with little meaning or really interest I’d say. Even calling it documentary would be too generous, it’s more cataloguing if anything. Can one break out of this box? Or is creativity like other inborn traits where you can train and practice but there’s a limit to how much you can do with what you’re born with? (/fit/ sisters can relate). I know probably it isn’t the best place to discuss since we’re snapshitters amongst snapshitters here, but surely this isn’t as good as it’ll ever get, right?

If you genuinely care about a subject or a place or a person, I believe your photos will reflect that. If you flit around between supposedly interesting things that you have no knowledge of or familiarity with, your photos stand little chance to be anything more than snapshots.

Let's say you are an alien tasked with photographing a baseball game. What and whom do you focus on? When do you focus on them? When can you expect the people around to react, and how will they react? How will you position yourself to tell the story of the relationship of your subjects? There's a big difference between photographing the batter when he's standing around, versus in the batter's box, versus swinging and missing, versus making contact, versus striking a celebratory pose after he hits a home run, versus the look of frustration when the ball falls just short and the outfielder gets him out. How could you possibly know to expect all of these intricacies if you just show up and gawk?

What's the best time and place to find a particular bird? Where's the best place in the city to look over the cathedral, and how does the differing lighting through the day change its appearance and mood? Where can you expect to find poor people, or rich people, or strange people?
>>
>>4310102
There's little natural contrast in this picture. Literal and abstract contrast is what makes a great picture. Ideally you use the literal contrast to highlight the abstract contrast.
>>
>aesthetic/creative/artistic (or whatever word you want to use) vision, and intent

Leicafags are an interesting species.
This is a thread to try and comprehend the minds of these consumerist retards.
Their subreddit, the premier place for Leica fans, has a rule explicitly stating that any photos need to "demonstrate a skill or technique that is incredibly difficult to execute correctly, has not been seen before, or both"
All the photos in the subreddit do not fit this idiotic criteria, yet are lauded.
99% of the posts there are about people buying gear instead of photos.
They care more about being seen with a Leica than actually using it.

You did not take this photo.
Egy only photographs random people walking.
>>

You gave them a refund, right?
Or at least delivered the RAWs so they can not live in cringe forever?
It's fine to suck, but giving baked JPEGs only should be a crime.
>>
The more i look at old pictures, the more i think muh image quality is fucking pointless shit in cameras and photography. At least the image quality of today is sufficient. It's just very sophisticated advertisement of the market.
>>

lol no, everyone's gotta start somewhere, fine for what they needed at the time, no point in giving raws to a client
should contribute to the thread and share some of your old work

I have a handful of expired film. Do you have tips on how to best get results? e.g. wrong iso and do I need to let the developer know about it?
Can't remember the details but this is on expired film. I just stuck in in the camera. Kodak something

Are FPV drones just a fad? I was going to make a thread on /g/ but I guess it belongs here since I'm planning making money with one. I know they're not very artistic but I'm thinking about commercial real state and agricultural shooting. Do they have a future in that?

I still think most people would rather hire out a helicopter with a $10,000 gimbal that can't get as close to anything, requires permits out the nose, makes a shit ton of noise and wind and cost 2000X more than some guy with a toy airplane
>>
>>4310034
Why do these idiots put the antennae close to their head?

I know a guy who does commercials and shit and he gets brought on set even if they dont need him just in case the crane or the dolly cant quite do the job.

Use them in my Olympus om1 it’s part of getting that look from that era.
Using my modern Nikon primes on the f100 produces something that looks halfway between film and digital.
I much prefer film with these older style lenses.

No, that's your mother.

>>4310159
Not particularly, but Zeiss has a certain niche, and a lens doesn't have to be Zeiss-like to be good

Yes, but they'll adapt rather easily to modern mirrorless (DSLRs are S.O.L. though, since the back element gets in the mirror's way). The Takumar 50s are also known for their heavy flaring when wide open. Pic related is f/1.4.
