This board is for the discussion of classic, or "retro" games, including consoles, computer games, arcade games (including pinball) and any other forms of video games. Retro gaming means platforms launched in 2001 and earlier, and official game titles for those platforms released no later than December 2007 (homebrew console games made after this date will be permitted). The Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and Sony PlayStation 2 will now be considered "retro".Helpful links:Game Tech WikiEmulation General Wiki
Post a cropped pic of any game screen and anons try to guess where it's from.
>>10880710>Super Scope 6?Correct!, more precisely the Lazerblazer gamss on it.Funny the other anons were close by mentioning others Super Scope games.
>>10880538hell yeah Street Rod, still remember how there was one car you could buy and strip of parts and people would pay an price you asked for it
>>10880810yeah that's right
how bout dis?
>>10881060Bubsy?
The “official” Hang-On next gen sequel was garbage while Manx TT was far superior… what went wrong?
>>10881065It was probably just done by a different team, as you said Manx TT and even Road Rash were better titles
I've wanted to play this game since I've seen it on a TV show in 1999. I finally gave it a go, and it was a tons of fun but.... 5 tracks? That's it? Seriously? I know the tracks are long and full of multi paths but still, this is really light.
>>10880775N64 racing library sucks in general but this game is a nice exception.
>>10880775this is a game that should be decompiledbut no, it's mario and zelda for the nth time
>>10881052Those have been decompiled once...
>>10881052>this is a game that should be decompiledThat'd be nice considering I just downloaded 3 different N64 emulators to play this and they all suck
>>10881054>he doesn't know
Does this interview finally settle all debates about the Sega Saturn? This board has some ridiculous arguments about the console, but it seems like we finally have all the answers from Hideki Sato>Was the Saturn originally intended to be a 2D console? Or a 3D one? >Sato: To be honest, in the beginning, I wasn’t thinking of 3D capabilities for the Saturn at all. This was partially my fault, but additionally, the game developers at Sega at the time had basically no knowledge of 3D game development. They had all been raised in the environment of 2D sprites and backgrounds, and the only developers who had any real experience with 3D were Yu Suzuki and AM2 with the Virtua series. >Actually, all of the other developers wanted to continue developing using the same system they were used to. If you looked at every single Sega employee within the home console division, there were practically no programmers or designers who had any knowledge of polygon technology. >I had taken a look at Sega’s development teams at the time and concluded, “It’s going to be impossible for them to do 3D games.” >I concluded that there was no way Sega’s development assets would be able to do 3D. >However, the PlayStation completely embraced polygons. >When we found out about that, we realized we were in trouble. >Thankfully, the (Saturn) SH-2s could be linked in a cascade connection. A large amount of geometry calculations are required to do polygon graphics, and a single Saturn SH-2 was completely insufficient. >With all the CPUs in the Saturn, only a tiny fraction of developers at Sega were able to make sense of them all and actually put them to use. For third parties… well, there was no way. >I’m not sure if you call it a memory, but a regret I have is not going with one of our options to use the arcade system Model 1 as the base for the Saturn. >We could have gone with 3D polygons with that kind of force. -December 2021 Comment too long. >>10874063The problem with Sega is they were always too focused on the hardware and always neglected their games. Launching Saturn without a Sonic game was a dumb move. Not having ANY Sonic game was an even dumber move.Just make Sega Saturn based on Model 1 with some upgrades for textures. Boom. Problem solved.
>>10874063What would a Saturn based on the Sega Model 1 look like?
>>10880350Exactly the same as the Saturn was, except no texture.
>>10880350You'd end up with a setup very similar to the playstation, i.e. no VDP1&2 nonsense, no dual CPU bullshit, just a fairly straightforward platform designed for 3D from the start (and could do 2D as well by using its 3D pipeline)
>>10874063>Does this interview finally settle all debates about the Sega Saturn? No autists on this board are gonna argue about "what could have been" until the end of time. This is why we need Bernieposting.
I remember having a bootleg spanish language version of this game on CD-ROM as a young kid. One of the best 2D platformers of its time

GENTLEMEN, THE X8 IS HERE
>>10880948I can usually hack a bit of asymmetric design but this is too much, it's not even in the same multiverse as the "dpad in the wrong place" posts that I routinely laugh at. Asymmetric vertislop with that much space between the dpad and stick, right at the bottom and the tiny buttons. Nahhhhhhhhhhh.Interesting look for a vertislopper but what the actual fuck were they thinking. Somebody needs to sit these Chinese down and show them pictures of unacceptable button placement on the edges. They need to learn, it's not okay to produce this much ewaste from recycled parts. It's not upcycling, it's downcycling.
>>10880948X6 looks nicer, even then it's kind of unnecessary when GB300 and regular Famiclones exist. Less is more with these vertical handhelds imo>>10881012It looks like the screen in 16:9 again too
>saturn quake
>>10880496Quake has always been shart. Descent already did what it was trying to do a year prior (with better colors), and Duke 3D is a better game from that era. >>10880496Never played Call of Duty MW2's Spec Ops missions and MW3's Survival Mode I see.
>>10880771no I don’t care about cod and you shouldn’t either
Yeah.. I think I'll take the opinion of the offical Sega Saturn magazine UK over some lifeless loser on 4chins lmao.
>>10875717Both PSX and N64 ports were great, former because of how technologically impressive it is and some new stuff and latter having an entirely new campaign.
This game looks exactly like RE 3.5 hallucination/hookman/whatever version, wtf. If we add weapons and zombies then I'm convinced this is what the game was going to be like
>>10879046It is her. The real Jill died in Lost in Nightmares lmao

>>10879001i heard it was in Spain.
>>10875657YOU JUST KNOW
>>10879128You might be thinking of Devil May Cry, which obviously does not take place in Spain but is based on Spanish architecture (mostly Gothic)
I'm currently downloading and throwing games into a 1TB SSD for my fat PS2. Hit me with all your suggestions, I wanna fill this shit up so I don't have to do this again. I've already got most of the obvious stuff and some HIDDEN GEMS but I'm sure there's a lot I'm missing.

Is 224p supposed to fill the screen or should I let it have black bars if I want to get the aspect ratio right?Or is it one of those "depends on whether the devs accounted for it" things?
>>10881028Can do both depending on timings, on consoles and arcades it's definitely supposed to fill the screen. There are patterns in 240p suite to get the ratio right.
>>10873158>Does anyone here actually read the posts they try to reply toThe question was how to hook up a CRT to a PC with composite input, the answer is to use VGA output to get 15kHz RGB, because that's a signal you should be able to get from pretty much any PC, then convert that to composite (like with a VGA to composite adapter). That's the best answer there is for connecting a "PC" to a CRT TV. There are old graphics cards which had S-Video output at least, some of the very old systems had actual composite outputs but I'm pretty sure that was even before the advent of VGA as a standard. Going by the question I assume the intent is to emulate games, which means a modern PC is the best choice and with a modern PC you may not even be able to plug in one of those old cards, therefore the way to get composite is to first get RGB 15kHz (over VGA) and then use a converter to go from that to composite. That should work and provide good image quality at the appropriate resolution for 240p stuff. You can also find HDMI to composite adapters, but those will usually take some higher resolution and scale it internally and you don't really know what you're getting at the output (whether it's 480i, 240p, whatever else) so if you want it to look authentic, which I assume you do, then the way to go is what I've mentioned. There might be a "good" HDMI to composite converter out there which can take 240p and actually output 240p without extra scaling and shit, but I don't know of any.>>10877564Actually outputting 216 lines at 60Hz might not work, but the thing is that CRT TVs pretty much all overscan to some degree. The "240p" output from games consoles is usually like 224 lines (depending on the game, console and so on) of actual game and this fills the screen despite the signal being 240p. 216 lines isn't far off from 224, so if you see any letterboxing it's going to be minor and if you've got a vertical size adjustment you can definitely fix it to look as you like.
holy shit why didn't you tell me about this game its fucking great
Why would I tell you? You'd just complain and get angry at me if you happened to dislike it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y_T8vif1fUNekketsu Oyako is not a great beat em up by any means, but the soundtrack in the Saturn version is amazing.
Played Captain America on the SNES yesterday. It's ass as hell. Barely playable.

>>10879326>Captain America on the SNES>SNESFound the problem. The 2.68 mhz SNES couldn't handle this genre (or any action genres for that matter).
