SRB2 Kart is a mod of a mod based on the Doom Legacy engine, turning the game engine into a kart racer akin to Super Mario Kart. It's a very lightweight game and runs on most all PCs. Use this thread to start netgames, join other anons, give help/tips, spritework, modding, feedback, etc.

So I've been going for 1st A/S rank for GPs on Master and Hard today and to let anons know, if you're playing Grand Prix on MASTER or HARD difficulties, the bots get a GUARANTEED SPB if you get too far ahead of them even with their rubberbanding bullshit

Not lying as I have two webms to prove it, see webm rel for the first

I'm pretty sure the way it works is bots can only do it on Laps 2/3 and they check for if the player is a certain distance away from 2nd place then one of the bots (I usually see 2nd - 4th) will get a SPB
This basically means that you can't play too good against the bots and you need to intentionally stay within a certain distance because even if you can dodge the SPB the whole race, all it takes is getting hit by one item then the SPB stuns you for 8secs and then all the bots rubberband hard and start spamming grow/invincibility etc

Normalfags hated it because it had a really long, unskippable tutorial at the start, but there's a lot more to it than just that so no one here seems to like it much. There's a series of posts last thread that has a bunch of bullet points as to why it's not great and I think it was Dairy who said he has an entire document of everything wrong with the game.
I think an easy way to summarize the current (and likely) future state of the game is that it's a racing game that punishes you for simply wanting to race

The funny thing is, after everything glaber went through, he eventually became a decent map maker and was even praised by some of his former harshest critics. It took him a lot longer than most, and he's one of the few people who have had new Official Level Design Contest rules instituted in response to them, but he came out the other side a better modder for it. It needs a fanpatch, but it's being worked on. The most egregious issues are the following:

>Fast Fall bounces; at most that should be made into a quirk of using the bubble shield (with the bounces adjusted to give you forward momentum), otherwise that shit needs to be removed
>negative ring count should either be removed or changed to regen back to 0 rings passively
>hitstop is far too strong and should be toned down since it can fuck up shortcuts and disorient players. also if they want to keep it, the effect should only trigger on specific items that land "heavy" hits (invincibility or certain projectiles?) instead of every fucking item because it goes from emphasizing heavy hits to being a jittery and jarring mess
>tumble is okay in most situations on the initial hit desu, outside of a few unfortunate angles where you bounce off-track, but that's the type of shit that'd still happen in SRBK with a different animation. That said its scaling absolutely needs to be changed; taking multiple hits and getting combo'd causes players to unironically get flung across the map, leaving them helpless for several seconds in extreme cases.

there are several other issues like the ring-draining melee spin but those aren't as game ruining

Hold the item button to turn yourself into a hitbox that can either hurt players or deflect projectiles.
Hold it long enough and you'll launch it forward (or back if you hold back), if it hits someone they'll be trapped in the bubble for a while. You also get a small boost if you bounce with the mid air drop.
It's kind of shit because even if you use it well the hitstop is enormous and it takes forever to get rid of if you need a ring boost. At least if you get hit with a shield up you won't lose rings.

I wonder if it has something to do with stun time till when you get knocked out of bounds for the respawn. Like, if the game has some sort of estimation of progress if you were to just keep going during the time of getting raped and it places you somewhere within an estimation of that. And IF that is true, you better hope you do get knocked out of bounds to respawn back into higher placement. Maybe the respawn action from holding the button can help if you are stunned for a long time without falling out of bounds and need to get back into the race? This game is fucking weird.

If you want to go for one, I recommend doing Collision Chaos because you can make lots of mistakes on that track and still beat the staff ghost as they go really slow through the spiked balls and the drop down but on the other hand that also means you have to deal with the drop down part of the track too which sucks

Even as a not so well-known person going against narrative that pisses off the right people brings a hate mob towards you. The srb2 community is full of kids and autists with literally nothing better to do than spin lies and harass you over and over and over.
Strangely bullying is not uncommon I've noticed, and I used to go out of my way to help people feel welcome if I saw it happening. Groups of people would make fun of who were likely young kids or autistics that genuinely didn't know better, in spite of all the positivity you see on the message boards and discord.
Of course (You) can block them and ignore them, but if you enjoy the games it weighs on your mind and just ruins the entire thing.
It's best to just disconnect from it all and play the updates as they come and ignore all the noise.

The best maps in the game are the least complex ones. Daytona Speedway and 765 Stadium are as good as ever, Hinagumi Hideaway and Emerald Coast are great additions, and Withering Chateau is my absolute favorite map. Then you look at Blizzard Peaks and Opulence, which have been butchered with unwanted gimmicks.

If srb2 survived the old circus in charge it can survive the new circus in charge. The ACTUAL devs (basically just sphere and nev3r) are both on the old team and the new team, and they now have Othius as well. Haven't minded his OLDC levels, certainly better designed than the trash in Ring Racers.

On VR Corruption, landing directly on the boost pad at the big jump causes you to undershoot the jump but landing on the floor beforehand makes it possible. This does not happen on vanilla 1.6.

The whole reserve boost system is better than rings in a singleplayer environment, but then I played Nitro-Fueled online and realized that it's basically time trial with other people, with the experts running laps over everyone else. That explains a lot of the character graphics. A lot of stuff is reused straight from SRB2K. I noticed Espio in particular looks like shit, especially when considering that there was just a huge SRB2 mod released with him in it that looks great

Prison stages have many unlocks and are worth a lot of points. You can do this to just get through the cup, but you'll need a lot of keys to make up the difference later.

Long tutorial in the beginning isn't actually that long, you can skip it almost immediately if you're good, or after the fist quarter if not, and the rest are neat challenge courses to learn the basics with.

The trick with the AI is that the ways in which they cheat are specifically designed to compensate for the fact that they're completely fucking retarded at driving. They're good at bonking you with items and get extra boosts to make up for the fact that they literally can't drift, but if you just drive consistently and don't give them the chance to really pull some bullshit they can't cope with anything you do. Definitely remember to put your items in the middle of the road, too, not just line lines that make sense, because the bots don't actively avoid items, they just don't take normal human lines.
They're not as bullshit as they feel, they're just designed because the devs have the philosophy of "AI opponents aren't going to play like human players no matter what so they should offer their own distinct challenge", which makes them feel like complete bullshit if you're expecting them to operate like human drivers.

I'm finding myself liking the fastfall bounce a lot more now that it actually jumps you in the direction you're facing a smidge.
It's still a shitty mechanic and I find myself still going slower using it compared to people who people who just hold gas instead of fastfalling sometimes because of it, but it's usable now instead of being a complete detriment infuriating detriment.
I even fastfell and released drift sparks in the bounce one time and felt real clever for taking a jump without releasing drift.

From my experience I'll say for the new stages that Emerald Coast, Withering Chateau, Regal Ruin, Savannah Citadel, Hanagumi Hall and Las Vegas are some of the best in my opinion. Basically every stage that's open enough to fucking drive on and doesn't have you bumping into walls every 10 seconds like a damn pinball. City Escape and Water Palace are good too, but unfortunately have tiny stuff holding them back, like the pace breaking wooden boxes in CE and Inside Drift when underwater in WP. Everything else is either hot garbage, worst than the original from SRB2K, or borderline the same from V1 (765 Stadium and Daytona) so they're just good.

Honestly I'm just wondering if it's possible to backport some of these tracks to V1 because I'd probably enjoy them even more than I do in RR

Out of all the ones me and my brother played, here are the ones we thought were good enough for us the actively want to play them:
Rumble Ridge, Opulence, Roaster Ruins, Darkvile Castle 1, Gust Planet, Silvercloud Island, Press Garden, Metropolis, Nova Shore, Blue Mountain 2, Dark Fortress, Azure Axiom, Melty Manor, Lake Margorite, Quartz Quadrant, Abyss Garden, Chemical Facility, Coastal Temple, Advent Angel, Crimson Core, Las Vegas, Sky Babylon, Thunder Piston, Deadline, and Test Track

Note that some of these might be ones people hate like Blue Mountain and Chemical Facility, while most returning tracks listed are worse than their V1 counterparts (Crimson Core is like the only good v2 port)

There's a lot of "ok" tracks in this game but most of the shit ones are new so probably stick to the second page I think

I've implemented DRRR's "shitty signs" in the SG signpost LUA.

From the readme:

Very likely that this'll be the last of the DRRR shit from me. Can't say for certain, but these only happen due to random bursts of motivation.

Can't guarantee shit will work, either. I thought DURRR Pack was good to go, but syncfails brought me back to reality.

Characters like metal sonic were the meta, conversely others like eggman were pretty bad, many of the new mechanics introduced in drr are probably designed to nerf heavyweights while buffing lightweights
