Does anyone else think that this was fake? There's a 0% chance that Johnson actually beat this dude. The only possible explanations are that they aren't truly the same belts and are on different levels. Otherwise, the only other explanation is that it was faked/big guy didn't try.

Normally yes but people like Johnson are 1 in a milion.
>>

DJ had a highschool level wrestling base and he outwrestled Henry Cejudo who won Olympic gold. Guess wrestling is fake.
>>
>>196160
So did aljamaican me crazy 92.5% silver
But that's in the context of MMA, not a pure grappling situation
>>
DJ just got his black belt btw
>>
>>195448
he literally has 20 years or more of wrestling experience. then probably 15 years of jiu jitsu experience. also why would anyone fake a jiu jitsu match? he got 2nd anyway so why would he fake just to get silver?

after analisys of over 300hours of video it was found that 96% of fights are only punching in the face/head

learning boxing is the most important skill for self defense

do not let anyone get close to you either, if you lose control of the distance atack first.

I personally love Krav Maga. Fundamental skills like punching and kicking are done as warm ups . From day one we did cardio. Other skills like knife and gun defenses were shown . Going to the ground and grappling was discouraged because in real life that's only good for one on one, not multiple attackers. Last of all Krav Maga is proven, as it's used by God's people the Israelis.
>>
>>192847
blades, knives, swords, and spears are the true weapons of warriors. Guns are good for distance fighting, but once you run out of ammo, you are defenseless against zombies.

Funny enough Israeli style they don't carry a round in the chamber so there's a 0% chance these suckers would get a shot off in you by the time you are on them
>>
Not a martial artist, have been in 1 real fight and a couple "scraps" in the past. If I could have chose a background in grappling or striking right there, I would have chose grappling easy. If you're in a fight for your life striking might be more viable. But if you're in the typical drunk/high guy is mad about something and comes at you, people are yelling about calling the cops with their phones out, beating the crap out of the person is not on your mind. All I kept thinking was that if I rock this drunk jack ass in the face and he falls and cracks his skull on the curb, I might be charged with manslaughter. I can knock his teeth out right now but one of these dumb asses filming could edit it to look like I started it, and I get taken in for assault.

It was a lot easier to yank him to the ground and pin him till the cops came and arrested him. I am decently in shape now, but was not at the time, thankfully the guy was off his rocker and had downed 20 beers in a few hours while I was sober DD

The issue I'd see with grappling is if you're in an unfair fight against multiple people really trying to kill you. I'm sure an experienced BJJ guy could handle 2 drunk guys. 2 muggers with a knife is questionable. You pin one guy while the other shanks you in the kidney?
And that really goes into why fighting back isn't the best form of self defence. Cardio is, lol. Better to outrun the 2 guys with knives than try and properly box them

Asking for a dwarf friend, what kinda of risks and injuries are there. Would 6 months of training be good enough?
>>
>>195390
People think little people would hit like children but in reality that is a full grown adult condensed into a 1/3 sized body. This means despite how they look those blows are packing grown man power and they only can withstand it due to the density of their skulls. Your friend shouldn't consider fighting another midget until he has at least 2-3 years proper experience and has sparred many times with regular sized people.
>>
>>195390
Dwarf boxing is extremely dangerous. 6 months of training will not be sufficient to prepare your friend for the risks he'd be taking. Risks such as:
>Accidentally being trodden on by the referee
>Getting lost in his boxing gloves
>Hitting himself with his ice axe as he ascends the ring
>Traumatic brain injury
>Fending off enemy gnats
>Slipping through the molecular bonds of the canvas
>Being kidnapped as a Warwick Davis substitute
>Fed to the manager's pet tardigrades if he loses
>>
>>195390
Dwarves can be really tanky. Tell your friend to roll up a paladin and he’ll be fine.
>>
I don't know much about dwarf boxing, or even regular boxing, but from what I've seen, their large heads, short torsos, and short arms all combine into rendering body-shots almost useless. When almost all hits are to their heads, it becomes much easier to guard themselves against them, so I image it may well be safer that full-sized fights. Also, if knocked out, the fall to the ground isn't as high, so injuries from that are probably lesser.

Do you think the rising average age of female gymnasts has effected the expected skill level?
Are people expecting higher skilled but less physically demanding performances now? Or has the change in training resulted in the peak performance for women reaching a later age?

At least when it comes to some of the events, like rhythmic, there's quite a few 20+ year olds that take the Olympics and the world championships.
Both Russians in rythmic in 2016 and 2020 were 20+, for example.
And Sanne won the balance beam at 26 years old, and Jade won the 2020 at 20.

Overall the winners are getting older too it would seem.

For our boomer brothers with bad knees and tight backs needing special warm up time, they should get to class a few minutes early and warm themselves up as they know what their body needs in particular to get going
This non-scientific calisthenics warm up will just aggravate preexisting conditions. The people who need to warm up will half ass it or skip it, and the people who can do it don't really even need it.

The other big point is the way most classes are structured you'll get all warm and loose then immediately sit down while the teacher shows the lesson and you'll cool off and tighten up even worse than when you first got there

A good class should start with low physical demands and then ramp up to a peak as people get warm before tapering back down as energy levels fade
So any kind of warm up and cool down should be built into the programming of the activity itself

That's quite a kick. How's the savate scene in the US?
>>
>>196884
non existent

even in france it's in total decline, it was really at its best in the 80s and 90s, lots of legendary fights between french savate fighters, the pioneers of dutch kickboxing and american full contact karatekas

It's annoying how difficult it is to just refer to FMA by one name. The way I make sense of it all is most Northern FMA practioners call it Arnis. Practittioners from Visayas, Cebu, and Mindano will mostly call it Escrima, Then there is another group who will insist on calling it Kali because Escrima and Arnis are derived from spanish terms for fencing Escgrima and Arnis de Mano.

Yaw Yan is not a traditional Filipino Martial Art.. It's a modern hybrid creation like how Jeet Kune Do and American Kempo were created . In many ways it's much more of a brand, just by examining the name of it Yaw Yan means "The Dance of Death" It looks fun, and I see many of techniques do look effective, but it's a commercialized school practiced in westernized gyms. it's not traditional like the FMA which uses sticks, spears, wooden shields, swords, and knives
>>
>>187193
>is dancing an extreme sport?
>>191722
How much of FMA was preserved through dance? Does anyone still train it as a dance?
>>
>>187193
How do y’all feel about the indisputable fact that LARP groups produce the most technical stick fighters in America
>>196796
>>
>>196882
The competitive FMA scene in CONUS isn't that big so some of the more athletic LARP groups end up being solid places to pressure test certain techniques against a larger pool of fighters on a more regular basis. Some of the more serious stickdorks do study FMA (and other disciplines) and apply that to their sport so it's definitely not a one-way exchange. Each format makes different compromises but short of actually killing your opponent with your baston you're going to have to sacrifice some realism for some partner safety.

Am I the only one here who practices muy thai for the social and fitness aspect, as well as self defense without having any desire to compete? I still do spar
>>
>>180058
I have L5 herniation too. I don't do MT but I do other stuff and it's fine. Yeah sometimes it gets flared up, but it's just a flare. You're not going to make it physically any more bulged or herniated than it already is; it ain't gymnastics.
For the times when it doesn't flare up, it actually flares down.
I'd try going on a light jog and if you can do that then you'll be fine at class
>>
>>182181
Strength training does however substantially increase bone density
>>
>>185383
Sparring isn't a theatrical production; it's part of your training. You spar to get better at fighting. Spar more often and get used to it so you don't freeze up. That's what it's for.
