alegria is one (of many) names for the widely used illustration style that you associate with tech companies.
you can find the wiki article under its more widely known name 'memphis':
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_Memphis

people here have a tradition of equating this style with political believes they themselves do not identify with, which keeps them stuck in a perpetual cycle of unintelligently ranting against it.
it is the careworn midwit version of a political statement, "disguised" as an artistic/cultural criticism (...or sth. I am not even sure what it is supposed to be). sure, you *could* have interesting conversations about artistic characteristics of that style or the anthropological context it is coming from. but from experience this forum is not the right place to do so in a productive/insightful manner

It's better but it still looks like a gas station logo. I don't care how much people muh fat people the old design, it was comfy and futuristic and represented the last time I held a naive hope for the future.

Looks like midjourney, you can get similar results with dalle and stable diffusion but midjourney makes the best looking images, specially in that retro style or whatever.

I don't know how midjourney prompting works but I guess you'd need to put references like "old movie monsters" "dark fantasy" or some key words related to what you want.

Then you use pika lab or animatediff to animate the images you get from midjourney, then add some retro film overlays and color correction in premiere or davinci and you're done.

Give it a try, OP, good luck.

A bit of a long weekend but here it goes:
Yeah, it is a good podcast, I did not expect graphic designers to listen to it too, but it makes sense. This is the episode in question: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4QnDG5NvYA7O5PWNfa9LpF

I do not agree with everything he says, like the endgoal being less important than the process. Both are important, but if you have low self discipline and too much stars in your eyes then this is a good book to set you straight and get you into the grind with a realistic/grounded vision.
>no easy answer. maybe you have ideas to share?
I can only give general advice but if you want something that applies to you as an individual then I can't help you because there are too many variables/I don't know what works for you. For me it has always been a gnawing desire to express the visions I have in my head and whenever I actually manage to succeed it feels really good. But raw desire is hard to manage and highly inconsistent, that is kind of why I like that book.
>but you need all these other components
This is why I also lift, meditate, manage my sleep/diet and try to develop more logical/left brain skills so that my machine/hardware/masculine part of me can manage more of my artistic feminine explosions of idiocy. I like the way you put it. I am a highly irrational being (relatively speaking) so balancing more with the rational can ironically get me to express more of my visions. I hope this helps?
>much creativity but crashing every bend might in total actually look like less creativity than a mediocre one that one can actually consolidate.
Yeah, that is me. Burnouts often. Less now.

yeah, I too think that process AND result are important!
in dynamical systems theory there is the idea of the critical point (at which phase transition occurs).
liquids are highly chaotic. they are movable and entropy increases in them quickly until homogeneity is reached - at which point potential energy is lost. the result is stale/dead.
crystals on the other hand are highly ordered. so much so that no piece of it can easily be moved. the rigid lattice structure won't allow for any mobility, making it inept for life as well.

complexity is an emergent property that arises inbetween these two extremes:
at (or close to) said critical point, from which the system is allowed to spontaneously lean into any of the two states, if it so chooses. (through control and action)

you can find this idea "unity of opposites" everywhere - even in most (all?) religions and spiritual schools; yin yang, syzygy, hieros gamos,...
the higher level control mechanism is constantly being confronted with having to consider the lower-level drivers (which are mulishly pulling towards one of the phase states).
a multi-agent system with you at the steering wheel.

Anybody knows how the Monotype app works and what it actually does?

Long story short, one of my clients has recently required that I switch to using the app instead of providing the fonts for projects directly. The thing is I definitely have some fonts with missing licenses on my PC so the last thing Id want is some big fuckoff corporate app snooping around my files and potentially bricking my entire font library.

Any insight on this is welcome!

It can't brick your library. It can phone home and if you have your info tied to the account, they will know where to knock.

It's sterile but you can't really say it's soulless. It's unabashed toxic optimism from corporate design, clearly unconcerned with being safe or inoffensive. Flat is neither optimistic nor unconcerned with being safe. I think the absence of these traits are what make flat design so soulless and frutiger aero rather curious within itself, as blindingly radiant as it is.

I need /pol/ to leave. This is a happy thread.

Hey /gd/

I have a question, if I produce images using illegal versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, do these images have any metadata that can be tracked to see if they were illegally produced?

and how do I remove such metadata, I tried googling this shit but it doesn't come up with any real answers on this topic

I'm just getting to the point of completing my 4th as well as 5th gd project for my portfolio and want to upload them all to Behance but also still not cause any problems for potential employers.

thanks

Yeesh, this board is slow. Nearly 5 months later, and this thread has barely moved. Well in any case, I figured I should share my new discovery. I figured out a way to trick photoshop into creating the curve I drew here: >>449730
It's a trick I worked out years ago, but never felt it was viable for painting, because it required re-setting a top layer, every time you painted on the bottom layer. So it was just cumbersome. However with this set up, it works universally.

In order to recreate it, just copy what's shown in the image. Not that I "inverted" the band of both curve layers. Making black to white and white to black. If you neglect that, then it won't blend right. If you're like "what the hell is he yappin about?" Just run the color picker across the red line. And you will see how all the colors trace a curve.

That curve is maintaining even saturation, while going from black to white. When you paint on the color burn layer, it will take colors to black, but in a pleasing way that maintains saturation so it doesn't feel washed out like normal black blending. It will also shift the hue down to whichever RBG channel it's closest to. So yellows will gradually hue shift down to orange. And oranges will gradually hue shift down to red. But if you're on the green side of yellow, then it will instead hue shift down to green. If you're on the blue side of cyan, it will hue shift down toward blue. This hue shift appears very even as well.

Painting in the color dodge layer does all the same things, except becoming lighter, and hue shifting "up" rather than down. Orange will lighten to yellows, and blues will lighten to cyans. Again, in an even way.

The downside to all this, is that the colors get crunchy near pure white or pure black. That's simply because there aren't enough colors to divide into such small increments. A natural limitation of math and 8bit color. Also, you can't effect pure white with burn, nor pure black with dodge.
>>
>>453550
Here are some examples. The left and right balls use the same exact masks. Only difference is, the balls on the right are using basic black and white for shading. Which of course looks like ass. And the left balls are using my set up. Notice how it clings onto saturation and shifts hues.

Looking forward to be a Freelancer Graphic Designer and Blender Artist.

I'm a 19 years old male, I decided to not attend to college because In my point of view, it's just not worthy it, paying thousands for something you can learn online. Here is my problem though, I don't know where I should start. I feel like I'm not confident enough, and I don't know many places where I could capitalize over my work.

I'm currently working at my family's business, but it's so annoying having to work with public, and being at a family's business doesn't make you feel like you are independent. Which is what I'm looking forward to be.

It's been hard since everyone tries to push me into college, because in their mind, college = easy life. And I really don't bother getting minimum wage as long, I'm doing something that I enjoy.

funnily enough basically my whole process from going from self-taught to college is documented on this board, but I shared my brief experience from my first semester here >>453466 if you're interested
I don't think college is necessary, but even from a community college I've gotten quite a lot of knowledge from classes and feel like a more competent designer for it
I'm just going for a one-year certificate at the moment but I may end up going into a bachelors

if you're insistent on self-learning, I suggest the following sources
>linkedin learning (I had one class that basically leaned entirely on these courses)
>skillshare
>youtube (stay away from trendy bullshit, watch lectures and talks from designers that aren't hacks)
and more than anything I found just looking at good design (or not even good, but design I like) to be both a good motivator and good for inspiring work

I have a very simple question, I hope I'm not on the wrong board.

I have a book in pdf form (pic related) and I want to print it out and bind it, but I want to move the text of the left pages to the left and the text of the right pages to the right. How do I do that? I downloaded Foxit PDF Editor but it doesn't have that option.
>>
>>454556
theres no really a clean way to do that, so really its not an easy question.
is each page of the pdf file a spread like pic rel or is each page of the book its own page?

is the file all pixels (images of pages) or is it selectable text still?
>>
I'd probably start by getting the PDF into InDesign, making sure the pages are laid out correctly, and then try setting up a script that moves content for each odd and even page.

Quick look at https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/scripting.html makes me believe it won't be too hard of a job

Hey anons, i have a selfish request. This is an exterior design of a house I plan to build.
Without changing the proportions too much is there any way you could make it look more cool and aesthetic?
Im not sure what but i feel like something is missing from it looking very cool, rich and futuristic.

I hope this is the place to ask.
