Everything is far too crowded. Also brown is likely difficult - you could repaint to lighter colors (or at least strip and revarnish with lighter wood stains), which would help but you would likely be better off with new shelving, which might not be in your budget.

IKEA and the like sell all sorts of lighting solutions for shelves and that's probably as cheap as you will get to do some kind of ADDED lighting to these kinds of shelves.

But it will be hard to add spotlights or pin lights when your are crowding your display that much.

Can you recommend the best lighting for a Detolf? And I don’t have an ikea near me, can you get it shipped or is there other options online from like Amazon?

I’m looking at their website now, prices aren’t too crazy. Do you have their v bracket as well or just the strips? And if so, what exactly does the v bracket do?

I used 3M double sided tape to stick em to the underside of the shelves.

Anyone here do custom shelving? I'm beginning work on a garage shelve build, and looking for acrylic panels right now. I've heard some places can print a border on them for you as well as cut them to size, but I'm not having any luck on finding a place like that online. Anyone have an idea on any online stores that can do that?
>>
>>10994769
You have shit crammed into there that you can't even see properly. Get a bigger cabinet.
>>
Anyone have a recommendation for something similar to a detolf? I like the visibility of them, but stuff I've checked on amazon has severely mixed reviews. And I'm not trying to spend too much on two cases.
>>
>>10995124
IKEA ships but they never offer free shipping, either get together with some neighbors or local friends/family who need something else and get on the same order to save that. Bezoland is your other option but Ikea is very good with cheap electrical, whereas Crapazom can be hit and miss when you are looking at cheap.

Before you order, I would check out a Lowe's or Home Depot or any place like that, and also hit up an employee who seems to know there shit and ask them for advice.

They will probably suggest more expensive stuff (even if they don't make commissions), but in all that you might get some helpful tips.

I would also suggest >>10995149
>3M double sided tape
But you will probably need to reapply fairly regularly (every six to twelve months perhaps? watch the dusting)

Someone on the DC forum made his own shelves based on designs his father did when he (the father) was still alive. Acrylic panels might cost you more than it is worth. You should see if you have a FedEx Kinko's or a small local print shop near you and talk to them about what they can do, but you might be better off just going for a school crafts effect with stencils, poster paint, spray paint unless you really want to drop some cash.

The good thing about going lo fi is if you don't like it, or can't execute it, you haven't broken a bank and can re do or even toss and rework.

I'd recommend the Neutype double door cabinet like I usually do when the topic of a detolf alternative comes up, especially if you wanted two, but they're currently sold out on Lowes and Walmart. Amazon has some cabinets that look identical, though personally I'd just wait for a restock.
>>
>>10999530
Whenever I see images like this the figures always look like they're edited in rather than actually being there.
>>
>>10999530
This looks pretty awesome. Is it the same dimensions as two detolfs pushed together?

>>10999713
>the figures always look like they're edited in rather than actually being there.
Thats because they are edited into the picture.
>>

Yep, 32"x15"x65". The dimensions are pretty much exact with two detolfs and they hold more weight per shelf. I bought it after Ikea had raised their price to $130 and after shipping the Neutype ended up being cheaper than buying two separately would've been. Just be warned that unlike detolfs where it's recommended to have another person but you can build it alone, this would be a lot trickier without a helper.

>>10999713
Here's a pic with some actual figures. Not mine before anyone starts in about posing, Legends, etc.

It's messy but how else am i uspposed to display these things?
>>
>>10995014
I really like this. I love when people intertwine their love for toys or general pop culture stuff into their interior design aesthetics. The only thing I would be worried about would be the figures falling when someone is either walking by or is sitting down too quickly.

anyone got any recommendations for wall mounted glass displays that could fit posed TF’s or ML’s? something like the ikea eket but wider? MUST have a front glass door
>>
I lost the long plastic corner sleeves that go on the detolf, so I commissioned a local 3d printing company to make a copy based on a template someone posted online. After going back and forth trying some samples out, I settled on measurements that fit well enough, but unfortunately they were only able to do like 6-inch pieces at a time, which is annoying. I'll put it together this weekend and post pics but based on the price (more than the fucking detolf itself) and the hassle of having multiple pieces, I would say it was definitely not worth it. Long story short if you're missing a piece from your detolf, just throw the fucking thing away.
>>
>>11003571
Glass, and yeah it reduces dust a ton similar to a detolf. I've had it for a little over a year and am just getting to the point where I see even minor dust. You could probably also dustproof it like some people do with detolfs to eliminate it completely.
>>
>>11003717
>the long plastic corner sleeves
>based on the price (more than the fucking detolf itself)
Holy shit you got robbed. https://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/plastic_rods_tubes_shapes/joining_section/246
>>
>>11003735
It's funny you say that because I actually tried this exact piece from this company FIRST and it wasn't even close to fitting.
>>
>>11003737
Ah, that sucks. What went wrong? Was the glass too thin for it?
>>
>>11003745
Yeah the panels are closer to 1/8" thick. It was kind of a pain in the ass to dial in too, and what i got still isn't perfect.
>>
>>10999530
One thing that looks like a disadvantage to me is the lack of metal frame on the inside like the detolf. That frame was actually pretty handy to hit unsightly wires for light bars. Not sure what you would do for the Neutype.

>garage shelf build, and looking for acrylic panels right now
I wouldnt personally. Acrylic is great for small cases and windows as a glass alternative with UV protection. Acrylic for shelves tho is going to be one of the most expensive options for the size and thickness you need. It tends to be a lot more flexible than wood or metal which means its gotta be very thick for horizontal surfaces to bear any weight. Assembling all the pieces is also a pain in the ass, i had to pre-drill holes for fixings and be very gentle to avoid cracking the sheets.

Id just use some nice lumber

Well fortunately I make enough money for both. My limited resource is time. I simply don't have enough to build and paint models on top of everything else. However, polystyrene doesn't go bad and the kits will still be waiting for me years from now.

That's a good point actually. Even though the frame of the detolf becomes somewhat invisible over time, I really appreciate the lack of it in neutype aesthetically. But I use standing floor lamps with 2300 lumens Daylight bulbs so I've managed to avoid adding lights to my cabinets so far. You can see how the wires could be pretty noticeable in the neutype here >>10999797 though it can also be done more subtly depending on the lights used like picrelated. Wireless stick on lights might also be an option, though I don't know how reliable those are.
>>
I have a bunch of Detolf from a previous collection. I collect vintage barbies now and want to make them look a bit more fancy. Does anyone have any inspiration perhaps? Just modified/decorated to look less cheap.
