I can't, but to be honest I didn't realize folding was so important to you and I'm not aware of other glasses that can do it. If you are willing to compromise on other areas just to have folding glasses, then maybe RayBan is the right choice.

the tolerances on the hinges can vary greatly, from tightly clicking into place to loosely flapping around. Tightening the screws can help, though this problem comes from the factory, not from use. If you want a pair, i would recommend buying a pair in person, so you can check the quality is ok.

With all this talk of folding sunglasses, I'm curious, what is the benefit exactly? Do they come with a case that can fit in your pocket? Because if not, what are you doing with them when you take them off? If they're just going to sit out somewhere, then they don't need the folding capability. Forgive me if I'm missing something, I just genuinely don't understand the hype behind this feature.

the classic ray bans are made in italy (clubmaster classic, wayfarer classic, round). people criticize rayban, but no one ever recommends another sunglass with glass lenses and acetate frames, and it's bc luxxotica makes money from volume like every other large business. they even have sales on their own website if you wait and know what you want. but if you think they're overpriced, go ahead and start your own sunglass company and do your own marketing and try to sell what ends up being $800 sunglasses. you can go into any city center and find a store that sells raybans in your size that will last for 10+ years. the only thing I dislike about rb is the logo on the front but it's not worth paying 4x for other brands without the logo
>>
>>18101704
Ray Bans don't have glass frames, and "made in Italy" is not the flex you think it is. Just because some Jeet in Italy made something doesn't mean it quality

I can't really find a pair that suits me like OP so I might go for them. What models do you have? I've heard they vary in quality depending on the country they were manufactured in (Italy, Japan, etc)
>>
>>18105201
There are only three countries in the world that produce acetate, Japan, Italy and China
The ranking for quality of eyewear goes in that order as well. Japanese acetate is considered the highest quality and Japanese craftsmanship is considered the best.
Italian acetate is considered good, with Mazzucchelli 1849 produced acetate to be the best quality Italian acetate out there
Then there's Chinese acetate which is considered the inferior option

Knowing that all brands get their acetate from those countries, it then comes down to the individuals working in the factories in a specific country putting them together. In the USA it's probably Mexicans, in Italy it's Chinese workers, in Japan it's old Japanese people in their 80s
>>
>>18105271
Good to know, thanks. After searching around it looks like Oliver People's still have a lot of individuality outside of Luxottica but the ones made in Japan seem to be vastly higher quality than anything else in their collection in terms of build quality.
Buying online it turns out to be cheaper than a lot of individual brands as well surprisingly. They don't seem to be any more expensive than any other brand from where I am in the UK.

>>
>>18105610

also pro gamer tip if you (or parents if zoomer) have optical insurance that covers glasses and if you don't need vision glasses you can get free sunglasses once per year on most plans for the cost of your copay as long as you get an eye exam and have puck lenses cut + installed. you get to keep the original lenses too and they'll swap them in usually as long as you go in on a different day. just call your insurance and ask. im a burger might not work elsewhere. they let you out of pocket the difference if you want really expensive shit above your plan's limit too.
>>
>>18105587
i don't like their lenses either. i had puck lenses put into my folding wayfarers. the stuff my optometrist does gives way better visual clarity (i forget to take them off when the sun sets sometimes) but blocks enough light that i can comfortable stare into a rising/setting sun on road trips. they've been reasonable to get done when my insurance hasn't covered it, even if they costed more it'd be a no brainer turns any decent frames into S tier sunglasses.
i won't wear glass lenses because if i did i would have lost my eye a few times already but thats a personal problem.

You guys are the most fashionable autists I know. Can anyone recommend a good pair of transition glasses that look like regular-old glasses? I used to wear glasses but ate a lot of carrots and stopped playing computerspiele. The ones I had were given to me by my ophthalmologist and were relatively thin height-wise, and rectangular-looking; they were pretty sleek. I want a pair of transition glasses that aren't prescription and look like regular old-glasses so I don't have to take them off indoors--too lazy to take them off every time I step indoors or go outside, better to just have them sitting on my face all day. It's very important that they aren't prescription because I don't want to ruin my sharpshooter eyes, and don't want to look like a faggot with shrunken eyes.

I know that I am asking autists for help, so I must point out beforehand that I don't give a fuck about the brand, I'm not a brandfag; I'm not trying to impress anyone with my superior gentlemen-like fashion. I just want some glasses. Hell, I'd settle for some /csg/-tier glasses if it weren't for the fact that I'd be absorbing hazardous material into my skin by having them sit on my face all day.

Unfortunately when you wear them there is a horrible gradient that is so distracting. They look cool if you can past the mallcore thing, but to actually look through them is so distracting. It's even worse because the top is cool green, and the bottom is warm brown, and it splits right in the middle, where your eyeline rests, so any movement of your head changes what you are looking at from warm to cool colors and back and forth. It's actually awful.

i woud say there is only a difference between glass and plastic materials.
and for the plastics the thing that matters is the coating

poly nylon or cr39 would all scratch to shit if left un coated. but they are never sold without a coating. and i have a feeling that even the cheap coatings have evolved quite a lot in the last 10 years or so.

the key to never having scratches is only cleaning the glasses with soap under the tab or in a ultra sonic cleaner.
T. 2yo poly glasses have no scraches thanks to my 15$ US-cleaner

btw at work i have prescription safety glases cr39 i even use to cutt and grind steel or drill in concrete and they have no scratches. Glass being super scratch resistant would get burn marks from angle grinding ( steel sparks tend fuse with glass or ceramics)

>brands like RayBan cost 200
Meanwhile
>Warby Parker, EyeBuyDirect, Zenni, etc cost 20-90
Literally why the FUCK are glasses so expensive when it's obvious they can be made cheap
>>
>>18114405
The price is right for the shitty glasses because you're paying little for a shitty product. On the other hand, you're paying far more than the cost to produce the good glasses because they have demand that warrants them. They may be overpriced for their practical value, but you actually are getting something good. (This is assuming you are actually getting the good ones and not the brand name shit that sells based off of name alone.)

Thoughts on Masunaga and Philippe Starck? I have to buy glasses as an adult for the first time and need something that will last a long time and work well in the office (academia) as well as in my free time. Someone recommended a shop in my city and Masunaga is the only Japanese brand they have. For some reason, that makes me trust the brand more, craftsmanship and all that.

All my raybans feels like trash they just have a trash vibe now I can't shake it they are just trash. My nicest pair I have to keep tightening a hinge scerw. can't believe I bought so much mall trash

I'd only buy those meta wayfarers because they have a camera for creepshotting but theyhave a stupid light on them.

Reddit told me to lookup seregeti, etna barcelona, r-something enginering, american whatever... serengeti are on amazon at up to 1/3 price sounds too good to be true

My carreras have been to hell and back and barely have a scratch.

They are a safe bet on most head shapes, I rarely buy sunnies online but was pleased with the fit and quality

for under $200 USD you'd be crazy not to buy a pair
>>
>>18115398
i dunno man, my original wayfarers are amazing, i've had them for almost a decade
the new wayfarers feel cheap in comparison

i'm so glad i bought ray bans before the brand degraded.
sounds like there's literally NO OTHER MANUFACTURER ON PLANET EARTH other than maui jim who can make sunglasses with tolerances good enough to do a half decent folding pair.
guess i already have the absolute end game pinaccle of sunglasses based on the degradation in quality over all in the market over the last 2 decades. just regret not buying a second pair in black.
>>
>>18116730
There are still plenty of brands making amazing quality sunglasses with top notch materials. The thing is that with Bidenflation and the current global economy, they cost 500-1000 dollars now instead of 200 like they used to

yes. i want sunglasses that are comparable in quality and function to my ray bans. not something worse. i can double my budget if need be. who can i buy sunglasses from that are at least as good as my ray bans? money is no object.

Yes because I'm a sperg with sunnys, loose them but thats probably because I go outdoors alot.

2 Pairs Italians
1 Pair Ray Bans
1 Pair Oakley (knock off)
2x Generic Australian pairs

At the rate I break them I'll be down to 2 pairs within 2-3 years lol. Probably buy a metal frame hiking or military grade next time.
>>
>>18095456
Too much frame, clunky, cheap, unrefined. A design for poors.

Anyone owned Oliver Peoples?
I'm pretty much set as far as my sunglasses collection goes but I'd like a pair of Persols and Oliver Peoples, but those would also be the most expensive of collection if I bought them

i've been asking about them on here. everyone who replies saying they own them says the tolerances on the hinges is poor and the quality over all is poor.

almost all of those brands are "designer" trash that anyone that knows better would avoid. pretty much anything on the right of the image is trash anyway
i don't like seeing what they've done to rayban and oakley. persol and oliver peoples being owned by them sucks though
the worst thing about them though is that they control the insurance

Hey does anyone know of a good, fashionable hard case for these? The one that comes with them is soft and I’m paranoid about them being crushed in my pocket.

>>18118472
Not sure, sorry. I got them in 2019 at Lunettes in Berlin and didn't record the model. Couldn't find them on the Masunaga site either.
>>
>>18117914
My Matsudas aren't associated with Luxottica. They are also peak quality. Perhaps there's a correlation? Try looking for better brands, and you'll see it's not actually a monopoly.
>>
>>18119485
Matsuda makes some of the ugliest glasses of all time
>>
>>18102802
Polarised prism lenses in the bright orange is where it's at. Colours are so beautiful and vivid it literally looks like you're tripping. Literally cannot get a better pair of lenses on sunglasses imo
>>
>>18119970
Any models with those lenses?
I have the Holbrooks in blue but I'd get another pair
>>
>>18119970
I tried this specific oakley configuration and damn is this anon correct, colors pop without actually hurting your eyes, there was barely any shadowy tint that it felt like I was wearing glasses again.
Shame the only model available was ugly as fuck, it did sit snugly on my face so that's something to its favor.
>>
>>18120006
the thing with oakley is the lenses are amazing and the technology is really cool. but the frames are just cheap nylon junk
i would gladly pay more for their lense technology, but the frames not matching that quality for the price is disappointing

>>
>>18119959
Well, I can understand why you would be worried about a Luxottica monopoly if you can't see the aesthetic value or quality in other brands. Hopefully you can grow to appreciate them more, and realize that a monopoly on garbage isn't really a monopoly.
