>>92732601Unfortunately for whatever reason, they have a lot of pull within the company, enough to get all horus heresy kits removed from 40k and a sizable number of aos kits removed from aos and clawed back to the old world, because you can't just sell it for both because gw spreadsheets wouldn't show old world sales that way. Literally the dumbest, most petty internal bullshit you've ever seen. "Oh we're still going to offer these products, but they're now under a different label and 90% of the players can join linger use them so our boutique side games division can show a profit internally"
>>92732755*no longer use them*Excuse the autocorrect
>>92732755Those rats even got dedicated 40k models moved to HH despite it being a complete lore rape (for example, the Decimator daemon engine was invented long after the Heresy, but now it's only playable in HH).
>>92732311Btw I've seen the retailer charts floating around, and their "it's just 2%" is horseshit, as usual. Average price increase is around 3-6% with some models going up as much as 10% or higher. Anything for TOW or HH is on the upper end of the price increases, also.

>>92732886>each GW system is set up as a subdivision that needs to prove its value relative to each other system>if a model can be used in multiple systems none of them can prove that it was their system that pushed those purchases>rate of continued investment or cancellation is on the line depending on performanceEncouraging your subdivisions to fuck each other over and passing the cost on to the consumer is silly but it does make it easier to report to your investors.

>>92731435prove me wrong
>>92732755I don’t understand why it is that Warcry specifically gets a kind of sort of pass for being tied to AoS. Like I get they just squatted a fuckload of StD units and even though it sucks I can at least see the excuse of “cutting down on bloat”. But all the newer warbands are unique for each army and some like Flamekeepers and Gorgers got their own subfactions in Dawnbringers. So it seems like they’re encouraging crossover there.
>>92733139for me it's Warplock Bronze
>>92733160Because they're not a 'true specialist game.Think of it like this, AoS is a team, within that team are guys who work on Underworlds and guys who work on Warcry. In contrast 40k is a team, within 40k guys work on Killteam.Meanwhile Necromunda, Horus Heresy, and The Old World all have seperate teams.
Just reading some of the comments around GW's business structure and profit model over the last couple of days and I'm kind of in disbelief. I guess I just assumed that, because this is a listed company beholden to shareholders, actual grown-ups would be in charge. I still don't entirely get it nor how they are a going concern rather than a laughingstock of the business world.
>>92733729No competitors or alternatives. Everyone else is uninterested, equally greedy (if not more), and offers vastly inferior quality, both design and material wise. Third parties all leech from GW's designs with enough tweaks to make them legally distinct to the point of being unsightly. There is no real threat to GW, everyone else isn't just garbage, they are inferior garbage.
>>92733729they have very close to a complete market monopoly on wargames. if i had to guess they own 90-95% of the total market share. this is what happens in a monopoly market, the company can do whatever it wants with its price, have the most fucked up or nonsensical business practices, pay whatever wages it wants and treat its employees like shit, all because it has basically zero competitors in the market, and being a "luxury good" its also exempt from most regulations that control more common goods like food and fuel, so they're allowed to get away with cartel style shit like their arbitrary international price inflations that have nothing to do with actual exchange rates, or arbitrary price discount capping that varies region by region based solely on the whims of their discretion
>>92733143>model gets a refresh>uh oh squatted
>>92733763How do you see that this monopoly has been sustained over decades despite endlessly buffoonish corporate decision-making? IP love? Product quality? One overwhelmingly more than the other?
>>92733112a real rat race we're in, huh?
>>92733858NTA but it is not by GW's own merit, other possible competitors are simply put, a cavalcade of itinerant buffoons that every time they take a step forward, it is off the stool. Point in case, Privateer, or Mantic.
>>92733894
>>92733898that is part of it but especially the last 10 years GW has been waging a war on FLGS shelf space for 3rd party games. GMG has done a series of interviews with his friend who owns a fairly large game store and he talks about how GWs continued expansion of their specialist games are literally pushing their competitors off the shelves, denying them shelf space and hogging all the prime real estate for in store sales.
>>92733858Privateer press had an incredible game in warmachine mk2 that was rapidly growing and was supported in such a way that left room for more rapid development, right as GW was at a lowpoint. When mk3 came around, they made many many many foolish mistakes, just as GW made huge changes for the better.
>>92733930Which wouldn't have been remotely possible if everyone else weren't a bunch of incompetent dimwits.
>>92733945GW dictates how much space you have to allocate to its products as part of its vendor contract. GW stock is literally bullying other products off the shelves
>>92733858Now, but I did some research on the matter for my economics final. The important thing is that miniature wargames are community based, it's why "we're a models company, not a gaming company" failed. You play the games that people also play. So in order to break out you need people to play the game and a reason to buy it. Now back in the 80's you had a zeitgeist which produced 40k, but also Mutant Chronicles. It's why factions like the Dark Legion and Brotherhood, like the Mystic, share the same aesthetic features. Now Mutant Chronicles didn't have as hard an aesthetic nor was it a true wargame until later, so it didn't rise. Now games like Maulifax/Infinity are also wargames, but they're skirmish wargames which is a different more loose market. You don't field 60 soldiers in either game, thus they're not in competition with GW.So you then end up with 5th edition 40k which was so fucking awful, it removed enough GW market share for Privateer Press to exist. Their game, like 40k/Mutant Chronicle, had a very distinct aesthetic. It was also cheap and fun to play, which means people bought it, which means more people played. You see how the cycle goes, until Privateer Press kneecapped themselves. It's a hard and stable market to break into, requiring both passion and luck.Tldr: it's a niche market and competitors all killed themselves.
>>92733970As I said, that wouldn't be possible if the alternatives weren't varying degrees of excrement. The blame is on the players, not the cards, how the deck is shuffled, nor the game.
>>92731673GW reports profit margins compared to warehousing costs, they'd make more money selling something else in it's place

It's ridiculous at this point the value boxes almost don't have any additional value if the value is supposed to be in the warlocks. Either buff them to the extreme so I can sell them to WAAC crowd or move them to old world.

>make crypt ghouls the only unconditional battleline>Also give them a decent statline>still the oldest models for FECit hurts and the only thing that softens that is the fact that the new (conditional) battlelines are goodHonestly the biggest issue with FEC right now is that they still have a CORE of old ass whfb models that dont fit with the current theming wellAlso the fact that FEC are one of the only factions that still have heroes that dont technically have a model (the 3 unit courtiers) and those three are also kinda hard to do balancing with
Darkoath are pretty fun to play, I hope their index remains similar.
>>92734841crypt ghouls are barely any different from crypt guard stylistically and the main difference, the face, can be offset by the fact every crypt guard box comes with 10 spares you can use for them
>>92731956I think the "Children of Chaos" bit was their biggest downfall. Maybe they would have been a better Destruction fit, the dark side to Sylvaneth's nature theme. Red in tooth and claw. Destroy it all, return to beast. Helped Destruction not be the "uh, orcs need to go SOMEWHERE I guess..." GA. But even then I can see how thematically they're still stepping on a few toes and not really carving out a strong identity outside of (essentially, and I apologise to beast bros) 'tougher, furrier marauders with a few more monsters'.
>>92734841>dont fit with the current themingDozen new kits have the same basic ghouls, just with finer details

Slowly working my way through the Darkoath box i got on monday. I really like the models barbarian style, and they are certainly an improvement over the old kits, but some of those poses are so limited it hurts to even have two of them with different weapon options next to each other. Also, specific heads that work only with specific bodies due to how the hair, and neck is shaped is retarded.

>>92735617>Stormcast and not DoKAbsolutely disgusting
>>92735632dok asses are too boney and half of them were men before changing sexand even then half of the others were men before being reincarnated as womendok women are simply gay roughly 75% of the time
>>92735628Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of heads, and some can be mixed as well.See pic related for example. The two with the short anime style haircuts in the center back will go onto any body, on some you might need to scrape the neck a bit with your knife. However, the (in my opinion) cooler heads like on those two bodies in the front, with the longer hair will not go easily onto the other body poses, simply due to the way the hair and the arms are blocking each other. And while there are 30 heads for 10 bodies, there are not enough heads with long hair to my taste, so you end up having to use those half shaved heads too. Also, not enough bearded male heads too, which is a shame because some of them look really awesome.Other barbarian sets: There are the Frostgrave Barbarians, they match the scale, and you can buy either a male or female box of them, but they wear a lot heavier fur and leather cloth, so while you probably could mix and match some parts and weapons, the bodies might stand out a bit because the Darkoath show a lot more skin (compared to basically zero).

>>92736518Been a while so some of the details are fuzzy. It's one of those olympic pentathalons were competitors have to do several different activities in order to score points, one of which was equestrian. Because it was an officially held event, all horses were provided to the riders rather than each one bringing their own horse. Who got which horse was decided by random draw. That rider was in the lead going into the equestrian event, however the horse she drew was completely and utterly unruly, and was essentially unfit to compete in the first place. It was known beforehand that the horse was that way, but the hosts still included it anyway for whatever reason and she got the bad draw.Naturally when the event began the horse absolutely did not listen to her and simply ran around in circles instead of doing any of the required obstacles. She broke down crying when it became obvious the horse wasn't going to do jack shit, and she and her coach did everything they could to goad it but it wouldn't budge. She dropped from 1st to 31st and was completely removed from the running since she wasn't able to score anything for that portion, and her coach was disqualified and banned from the Olympics for getting angry at the horse and hitting it on the back.Essentially the girl lost what was likely her only shot at a major Olympic triumph becuase she got assigned the retarded horse who didn't listen to anyone.

This is a serious question, why is every single AoS twitter account a trans woman? I don't just mean a generic warhammer account that also posts AoS minis, but whenever there's an account that has an actual AoS themed name and/or pfp on twitter it's a trans woman. It's not like this for other games; if someone has a 40k pfp they're probably a right wing nutter, if it's a WHF pfp they're probably a fat Dad, etc..

>>92737070because normal people are warhammer fans before being warhammer aos fans specifically so the only people who are warhammer aos fans first and foremost are the lowest kind of bootlickers who probably took on aos under their identity with the pretense of it being the type of warhammer that sticks it to the archetypical 40k cryptonazi or the fantasy gatekeeping grog and other silly strawpeople

According to the barbarous Frenchmen, the Gunnar Brand novel will be published in one month's time, on June 8th. Sample excerpts reveal that the novel is set after the Vermindoom, and that Gunnar tried and failed to stop it at its epicenter in Chakrik's Folly, having faced off against Skreech Verminking right before the skaven's scheme came to fruition.

>>92733970That must be why the nearest LGS to me stopped selling warhammer stuff 6 years ago.
>>92738679NTA but I can corroborate. Have had the few LGSs I have basically drop gw because starting out with them is miserable. They force you to buy certain kits until you reach some certain metric or milestone, then you get some inventory freedom. Last year my last GW stocking LGS purged their GW inventory at 50% off in protest of not getting allocated a single Leviathan box despite faithfully stocking every weeks preorders. They still had 2 dominion boxes last I checked.
>>92738646In a better world GW wouldn't be run by shortsighted retards who only look to suck-off shareholders. They'd force writers to cooperate and coordinate their efforts, and they might even a few people who understand game design.I mean can dream.
>>92738740I mean that was basically the whole dominion scenario. Flgs owners got locked in to a minimum buy on dominion and then fucked over when gw decided to delay in store shipments to sell directly on their website so flgs owners were essentially left holding a bag gw forced on them and then pulled the old bait and switch
>>92738740>>92738679they also make you buy their glue and stuff even if the LGS sells superior tools
>>92738819That is just plain wrong. There was no minimum buy and especially not one for 50+ boxes.Stores just ordered too much because they thought allocations are going to be lower like for the 40k sets.
>>92738679The other problem is availability, 2 days ago my LGS posted about geting only 5 CSM battleforce boxes. There is 20+ list of people waiting.
>>92737841>best you're getting is gargolyan knightsmore best care scenario we get them, they would mog the fuck out of demis.
>>92737841It would be better if TOW didn't have demigryphs because they don't fit the empire, especially in 2291 IC or the date TOW is in, the empire in TOW should ideally have upgrade sprues or old cult of ulric models for Ulric and Taal worshipers to simulate th armies of the middenland emperor and the talabecland emperor. The style of demigryphs are very high fantasy and fit more closely to the nu-cities of sigmar aesthetique.

They only really recieved notable updates to their model line towards the end of Fantasy's life. Moreover, their rules were generally pretty terrible. Despite suffering from many of the exact same problems as the VC, TK never saw many of the rules updates VC recieved to address those problems.Playing TK wasn't exactly fun when your opponent could guarantee your loss by simply nuking your liche priest off the board turn one every game.

>>92741428its been a few years since i built them, but from what i remember the deepkin infantry actually had 2 different poses per model in both kits. like different upper arms and pecs that changed the way the whole guy went together.and of course kharadrons arkanauts have ball joint heads and arms with completely interchangable parts between every body, although the torso poses are a bit static. ironjawz brutes were quite a flexible kit, as were the gore gruntas although the mounts themselves not so much. gloomspite gitz kits like boingrot bounders and rockgut troggoths are kinda famous for their amount of options. you would have to build like 3 or 4 boxes before you got repeat models

What are some good painting tips or advice for a beginner outside of thinning paints? I've been holding off on even priming due to anxiety of fucking up and the cost of pots.I had a few models when I was a kid and managed to sort of re
>>92742773>I've been holding off on even priming due to anxiety of fucking up and the cost of pots. You'll never improve if you don't try, accept that the first attempts are going to be rougher than what's on the box.Other than that look on YouTube for guides on what you're trying to accomplish.
>>92742738first thing i'll tell you is that if you do fuck up, its not the end of the world. you can get a gallon of a product like pic related and safely strip paint off your plastic without damaging itwith that out of the way, we need to talk about paints. not all paints are created equal. citadel, the games workshop brand, are notorious for their consistency problems, poor pot design, and other issues like paints that have too little pigment or too much white causing them to be desaturated. vallejo is a good consistent alternative but the coverage isnt quite as good. proacryl is excellent coverage and consistency if you dont mind a matte finish, duncans two thin coats brand is basically citadel without the problems, AK 3rd gen is favored by a lot of painters, and army painters speed paints and their new line of wargame fanatic paints are supposed to be very good, though army painters original paints are quite bad. from there, decide on if you want a traditional workflow (base, layer, shade, highlight) or a contrast workflow (zenithal or slapchop prime, apply contrast, then highlight). both are valid. contrast has a learning curve when it comes to accuracy of brushwork because cleanup is harder, while traditional has a learning curve with paint consistency and even coats. and of course you can always use a blend of the two, like in this videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw9iDiAGNmIluckily nowadays you are spoiled for choice when it comes to painting tutorials on youtube, so try watching a few for your chosen army and see which method catches your eye the most
>>92742773which army are you starting?
>>92742887Haven't picked an army yet, but I do have some older skaven models I bought for somewhat cheap from the lgs since they where in a loose bit box. They're effectively throw away but for some reason I just have anxiety when it comes to any sort of art and craft.Did a few intro games too using stormcast who seemed fun enough and I like the greek death masks and deployment stuff. I am awair they are beginner bait.
>>92743100i wouldnt say stormcast are beginner bait, they can be a legitimate beginner army, although i would say a better beginner army is the one you like the aesthetics and playstyle of, because if you like how it looks and feels you are more likely to stick with it, learning curve be damnedsince skaven are what you have to practice on, here are some tutsa contrast method tutorialhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IobJTxh9nXkand a standard method tutorialhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp_vdo0AFhIdont feel like you have to use the exact same colors as a tutorial, its more about technique than specific colors unless there is a particular color you really love and want to replicate. when choosing an army, i usually recommend people to narrow down their choices first to 3 armies that you like the look of, and then from there pick based on playstyle. it can be a slog if you like the look of an army but find its playstyle on the table to be an absolute pain, unless you are purely a hobbyist with little to no intention of playing. stormcast playstyle is usually a teleporting down from the sky sudden assault, either with high output melee bruisers, high output ranged snipers, or high output monster riding cavalry on creatures like dragons. they dont tend to have a lot of bodies and are vulnerable to damage from spells and poison, but have good armor against physical attacks, their specialty is usually applying very high damage very suddenly at very precise points. a shock and awe type faction. they can also be one of the easier armies to paint because they take metallics well, and there are a lot of good metallics on the market like pic related. stormcast also have the benefit of being cheap to acquire on the secondary markets like ebay and troll trader
>>92743100oh and also you can get cheap brushes from places like walmart, amazon, or michaels in large packs usually for less than $10, which is great because when you're learning you are bound to ruin brushes here and there, and its much less of a pain to ruin a $2 brush than some $15-20 fancy citadel brush
>>92742334Would they actually work as butt plugs?
How do they sleep in Hysh
>>92743568there's still a "night" in Hysh, it's just that the "sun" never fully leaves the sky. if you've ever slept through a sunset or sunrise then you could do it too.
>>92743568Like they would anywhere above the Arctic Circle. Blackout curtains/shades.As for what "night" is like in Hysh, go look up videos of an area in the path of totality of a solar eclipse. That's kinda what I imagine it like.

>>92743568Close the blinds when the sun is at its weakest
>>92742773Don't be scared. If you have a golden demon painted army on the table and a badly painted army, you can barely tell at tabletop distance. If you have a grey army vs a badly painted army, the badly painted army looks infinitely better.Just keep plugging away, the more you practice the better you will get and badly painted models look far, far better than unpainted models
>>92741183You can do it Anon. Those shields with split colors look quite nice
>>92742143With different helmets, these guys, in your colors, would look like actual knights instead of fantasy space marines. Well done.
>>92743216>>92743203Thanks s ton for the help guys. I'll look these over and buy some primer. I've heard humidity is dangerous for that so I might have to wait the weather to change a bit here.
