Let's discuss the KLR650.

They call this thing a dualsport even though it's shaped like an adventure bike to my eye. As far as I understand it, it's really like the most recent common ancestor of both of those categories. I watched a couple videos and I find myself attracted to the bike even though it kind of seems like a piece of shit. Heavy, slow, analog, comfy tractor.. Is it worth buying one even though I have a 2021 CRF300 and a 2023 CBR650 neither of which I will be selling?
>>
>>27638385
With the bikes you have no. It's an unkillable adv. Not great at anything but a true work horse.
>>
>>27638385
The CRF should do everything the klr does, some things a bit worse some things a lot better.
Then again you can never have enough bikes
>>
Did about an hour of recording and the mic was not plugged in. :S
>>
Okay. I guess the mic was plugged in. Some of the videos have audio and some of them do not.

I want to get rid of my 2008 klr650, probably for something like a svart/vitpilen 401. Maybe that's dumb, but the KLR is slow and really not fun to ride any faster than 60-65 mph. For how fat and tall it is, it feels very floaty on the highway and disconnected from the road. I'd honestly rather have a Grom that I know can't do 60 vs a bike that can do 60 but feels like shit the whole time.

I have a question : I want to get a scooter, but I'm also so fucking cheap it's to the point of mental illness. That's not a joke. My options are also limited. I'm an American, and there's one dealer within 300 miles of me. I'm not comfortable with an out of state sale, so my options are limited to a new 50cc taotao, or waiting months for a used 50cc taotao with no titles to pop on craiglist.

There's an idea that's been josting around in my mind. Why not convert or modify a dirt bike or mini bike to be street legal? They appear more often on used sites for $200 less than a new taotao, and even a local hardware store has a Coleman B200R, but I'm never riden a minibike.
Online states say the speed is 23mph, and that with carb adjustments a taotao can actually reach 40+ (and that the carbs are adjusted to meet inspection standards).

Anyone ever heard or done such a thing? And thoughts at all?

picture is unrelated.

Yeah that’s me circa 2011. I dug up a bunch of old bike looks. Do yourself a favor and do not buy a 1991 model like I had. Get 1993 or later because they have electric start. The DR350s were a bitch to kick start. Sometimes it took 2-3 kicks. Sometimes 20.

I've gotta get one with a kickstart, but there must be a way to install a kickstart WITH an electric start right?
I think street legal kickstart models still had a battery, and I'm sure someone has installed a kickstart onto an electric model.

I want a big Jap in-line four bike again. I’m tempted to relive my glory days and get another early 2000s Bandit 1200. They go for pretty short money. Pic from 2010 when I was living overseas.

still more than the old liter v-twins made until they started cheating, the 999 was about 122rwhp. these days claimed hp is usually a bit closer to measured

>>
>>27639051
Well it's a twin so no, but the the Ducucky 999 made one fiddy and the Panigale V2 is at least slight progress at 155. This is TL1000S performance, basically, close to a VTR1000F as well.

I mean the engine is just straight the fuck out of a Duke because they are doing the bare minimum for a World Supersport bike, anyways.

Start at the outside of the corner and work your way into the apex with a consistent even throttle and then as you exit the apex you apply more throttle as you come out. Doing what you’re doing is dangerous because amongst other things, the suspension isn’t loaded properly. You should also be able to hold that line through the turn. There shouldn’t be a need to correct your turn in the middle of it. This is how people end up riding into oncoming traffic when going around a bend.

A lot of cops ride and if they don’t, they know a ton of coos who do. Police give motorcyclists a lot of leeway unless they’re doing something really egregious. I had a cop pull up behind me while I was doing 95mph in a 70mph zone to let me know he was there. I switched lanes, slowed down and he drove off. If I was in a car doing that I would have gotten a huge ticket.

Don’t misunderstand the police in the U.S. are here for revenue generation first, crime prevention second, protection third. In fact the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the the police have no duty to protect citizens, only to uphold the law when it is broken. That’s why we don’t want to give up our guns. If I can’t protect me and mine, no one will.

the best way to learn how to "ride as if you're invisible" is on a road bike at night with no lights, because you literally ARE invisible and don't have any passing power beyond like 20mph. a motorcycle is safe as fuck by comparison

seriously, just having a headlight that you can't forget to charge or bring with you makes a motorcycle feel much safer at night than a road bike. and the same habits that keep you alive on the road bike work on the motorcycle, it just goes a lot faster and you don't have to pedal it

The biggest dummy dumb dumb thing you're doing is pulling in the clutch into the corner. Don't do that because if something comes up mid corner you'll have no way of controlling the bike.
You're also quite choppy in the corners. Bikes is a smoothness game, all your inputs have to be smoooooth, in the corner you want to be smooooth, if you want to be fast you have to be smooooooooooth etc.

Do all your braking before you lean it over.
Once you lean it over, crack open the throttle.

ONCE THE THROTTLE IS CRACKED OPEN, IT IS ROLLED ON EVENLY, SMOOTHLY, AND CONSTANTLY THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE TURN.

If you're not accelerating when leaned over, then your control (read: traction) will suffer

Getting a lot better at keeping it at balance point, but my steering could use some improvement. Especially if there’s a cross wind.

In Spain the a2 exam is fucking bullshit, and in my city you have to do the slow part in an incline. I was the only one who pass it and we were six. That's the exam if you want to see it

Thanks for the advice on cornering. I will try it out. The reason I pulled the clutch in was just rolling downhill. I will stop doing that (read:traction). It's too bright today.

I wonder if Keith Code spends every day worrying someone will finally sue him for how many people have been hospitalized and killed because of these words. Or maybe he even has a conscience.

Mostly aero like drop bars on a bicycle, somewhat forward and down weight shift which helps with keeping the front end down.

Ktm is basically CF moto now. Chinks think Americans like things that look fast without being fast.

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

I say zix. So zx12 would be zixit (the 2 looks like a T to me).
In the ame vein, the zx6r is the zixer, the zx10 is the zixo, and the zx4r is an embarrassment.

Does it backfire out the exhaust or intake?

It's common for donor engines which were running pulls to have stuck or clogged fuel injectors. If so let your mechanic know you have the old set to swap out.

Your factory service manual shows how to check timing. Never be without one. There is no excuse. Most people fuck up doing things "their way" instead of methodically copying success and asking experienced pro mechanics online (fora, rebbit, whatever works).

>I had a rusty chain bind up inside the front sprocket

Strange description. Did chain break and jam between sprocket and engine case or what? If chain is crap I slice them off with an angle grinder.

>USA is on the downhill slide anons. Act accordingly

It wasn't better in ancient times either. Every of many independent shop owners of the many I've met began wrenching because dealers and other shop owners boned them.

>>27638942
Some cars and trucks do that shit too. Anything in volume production should have someone who figured it out if the FSM lacks a decent fault tree.

>I've gotta get one with a kickstart, but there must be a way to install a kickstart WITH an electric start right?
>There can't be TOO many differences.

That's not how machinery works. There are many posts on the subject which took seconds to verify.

https://www.thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/1400199-adding-dr350s-electric-start/

"yes. you'll need an engine, wiring harness, CDI, bigger battery, different intake manifold, airboot and carburetor.

much easier to get a 94-up SE"

If bike is in good shape an engine swap could be worth doing since it's so easy. I'd check with online salvages. As with most such older bikes good complete engines may be hard to source.

Thumpertalk is always worth a look to see what swaps others might have done.

Year?

>>27639169
Yes. If someone manages to clog a bike filter it's because they destroyed the engine. Next time best order online in advance and if keeping vehicle order several which also averts inflation-related assrape (unless u liek bottoming, I don't judge). Not making store trips for filters or oil is pure win.
