>he describes music as "accessible" or "challenging"

Some music absolutely is more accessible or more challenging than other music

Climbing a mountain is challenging. Sitting there listening to music isn't fucking challenging.

An album being more "challenging" doesn't make it better, I feel like so many pretentious losers claim that it does though. Sometimes simplicity with a bit of experimentation is better than obnoxious avant garde noodling
>>
Accessible is a codeword for good
>>
man i was about to sperg out here because i can't tell how serious you're being because i'm actually autistic but all i'll say is this: what people mean by "challenging" is it requires some context and fluency in certain styles of music to understand. if you don't have reference points for a genre or sound you won't be able to evaluate it in any meaningful way. some genres/artists are further from the western popular music we are growing up around and so when you are first exposed to them you will have no reference points at all and will find it very hard (read: challenging) to engage with. a lot of challenging music sucks but unless you have some fluency in the musical language it's dealing in you have no real way of knowing that. but i agree with saying things you don't like are bad on principle so you should keep doing that

accessible = sounds good
challenging = sounds bad on purpose

For me, Bach is challenging. I'm too much of a musiclet to appreciate it. A man has got to know his limitations
Beethoven is more accessible for me
>>

"Accessible" means product and "challenging" means art. Simple as.
Note that neither of those categories have anything to do with the actual quality.

of course not but its still an effective descriptor

understanding bizarre and unique music can be challenging, like Jazz for example

Either a piece of music sounds good and is a joy to listen to or its shit.
>>
>>121551612
Hearing music passively isn't challenging, but actively listening to and appreciating certain music is.

genuinely low iq takes and you can tell because they can't even conceive of something outside of their understanding. the bounds of the universe end at their current sphere of knowledge.

Music is for entertainment.

You live such a shallow life.
>>
>>121554283
Having your boundaries, expectations, and understandings pushed can in fact be very entertaining.

>>121552560
Maybe if you're a fucking retard lol.
>>121551326
All that really matters is if you enjoyed it end of the day.

>Challenging
>Genre which is 90% elevator music

Funk and Soul Music are simply better. So is Classical.

Anything that isn't popular now is challenging for people. Also undanceable things, but it depends a lot.
