Couldn't figure out how I'd work a Mojave chapter dude into a party so instead he's from DC/Canterlot, which means things got kinda complicated. He was born in the Pitt (which would probably be Hoofington in FO:E but we're basically playing the vidya setting) and was about six when the BoS came through and razed the place. He was one of the kids Lyons adopted into the chapter. Starting off pretty rough here:>Bad stuff>born a slave in the most brutal settlement in the Wasteland, which messed up his head really bad >never knew his dad, just stories he heard from his mother>mother died during the Scourging >good stuff>got out of the Pitt and into the BoS >had an absolute saint of a mom that imparted a lot of important lessons and was generally a good role model >BoS is now a solid support structure to un-fuck his head and whip him into shape. >he's one of the older adoptees, takes on an older-brother role for the rest of the Pitt kids and becomes close with a lot of themUnfortunately, since we're following vidya canon, this good turn eventually goes to shit after the Canterlot chapter is embroiled in a crusade against the Vault 87 super mutants. So my dude grows up watching his adopted family die brutally one by one until Lyons opens the chapter up to Wasteland recruitment, and then he gets to watch those saps get thrown into the grinder too. Eventually most of his mentor figures are dead, and so are all the rest of the Pitt kids barring one other (Kodiak, who is canonically the sole surviving Pitt adoptee in FO3). With most everyone he cares about dead and disillusioned with Lyons' leadership, he turns to the Outcasts during the BoS schism. Problem: he's also too idealistic to fit in with the Outcasts comfortably and has a bit of stigma against him for not being born into the chapter. This is how he winds up on assignment to head west and try to contact the main Brotherhood body because the Outcast leadership recognize his loyalty but they need him out of the way, so they fit him up in the chapter's last suit of T-51 and give him a list of places to go searching. At the time of the game he's spent five years effectively in exile, running around the country chasing ghosts >Manetanna chapter vanished into the woods>Midwest and Appaloosa chapters were unrecognizable >finally wound up in the Choccy mountains on his way westward, where he was buried alive in a rockslide>survived, was dug out by a party member and they traveled to the Mojave together where they met the rest of the PCstl;dr he spent his childhood being routinely abused as a slave and then traded up for existing in a state of perpetual urban warfare. Exile was probably the best thing that could have happened to him but that still leaves him with five years of almost 0 social contact.

They can't really compete with the BoS man to man but they're able to withstand a 15:1 loss ratio for long enough that the BoS has to pull out and go into hiding. Still, it didn't exactly go well for the NCR. Maxson is still under BoS control I think, and the war also collapsed the NCR dollar which is really screwing their economy at the time of NV. The bigger question for me was always what even caused the issue in the first place, since the BoS ended FO1 on good terms with the NCR, but that's never explored.
