Maybe, maybe not, but either way it won't be much. There are only four more issues with Cage SS (Nitta, Maki, Saiki, Christmas special) and I definitely want to complete this series, but whether or when this will happen is out of my hands. There are a couple more issues that have Cage/Psychedelic articles which I'll add to the order if they happen to be available at the time, but otherwise I won't be going out my way to get them.

It's a virgin uke MC game, there is absolutely no chance that is happening. Your best bet is some mindbreak bad end where he seduces one of the guys.

I was rereading Maki's Destroy route, and wow somehow the first time around I totally didn't understand what the fuck was happening in the scene where Maki kills Teppei's third customer and when Ishimatsu comes over to deal with the mess Maki casually tempts him into fucking the unconscious Teppei with a dildo, only to mock him when he is turned off by the whole thing since dildo rape by proxy is Saiki's shtick so Ishimatsu should be used to it by now. I love this asshole so much. Holy shit.

I've replayed UruC and Juurou is still very cute and pathetic
>>
>>46698620
That was some kino. Juuro best boy. His lame titjob was pathetic too. He is so desperate to get yomis ass. He is willing to throw everyone and everything just for Yomi. Destroy the world for yomi.

Still majima best boy
>>
planning to get Taisho x Alice soon
>>
>>46698750
Majima wins the schizo competition since he's just a human but still managed to achieve so much, but Juurou gets extra incest points since Yomi is also sort of his mom.
>>
>>46698750
I've really gotten a taste for obsessive mutually toxic relationships lately so I enjoyed that route more than I had initially expected.
>>
>>46701054
I loved that revelation so much. Indeed majima is a human and accompliced a lot for a human, and did get it with both his half sister-first cousin.
What i absolutely loved about juuro and consider him best route in uuuc, is his writing.
Juuro at first is portrayed a little cold, very hardworking but he isn't bad. Kinda feel bad for him at some point because he has so much to do like be a top actor, be a superhero + make time for his fiancée/gf and so many people who depend and rely on him his under a lot of pressure. But I absolutely love how everything started to pile up and slowly losing it the moment he realized that yomi is going to leave and all his concealed feelings for him and obsession finally burst and he just lost it. Went full blown schizo and threw everything away, started killing humans kaijuu and didn't give a fuck if the whole world got destroyed and just he and yomi stayed (that's his ideal world actually). I personally loved the ending, there are SS after stories too which are actually pretty cute and show more of yomi and his fear of being alone after juuro dies. Juuro is really awkward deep down and really cute in front of yomi. He is such a complex character really love him. From my favorite blvn protagonists! The revelation was kino too. I'd say that Yomi is like a his uncle, mom genetically and brother/selfcest in a way,
a part of him
too?! Based, you don't come up with that shit everyday. I want to see what kind of incest kino kurosawa will come up with in Ooe. Hashihime had too in a way.

>>46701167
Same! I really like yandere/haraguro tropes and toxic relationships, but not in the memeish way they are usually portrayed, cages and "no talking to other males" shit. I mean, I still enjoy such tropes a lot and have fun with them in vns, but I want more memorable character, who are more complex and can write essays exploring their personalities through their POVs and actions. A reason why I'm totally obssesed with Majima. He's great for that. His SSs are amazing and loved how his true ending and fandisk stories are from his POV. It's very ironic and tragic, seeing the true ending from both Yurikos POV and Majimas in the true ending and compare them.
Yuriko finally managed to marry the love of her life and oppose and go against her family and role in society as a noble woman and is living her very best fucking like bunnies with Majima. While Majima is ofc happy but daily suffers and wallows in misery and self hate, having married his half sister/cousin, being a drug lord in Shanghai and his only comfort is going to Yuriko and their happy house. Yuriko is totally unaware of everything but she is happy and so is he and willing to protect her, but also keep her away from everyone that will try to steal her away from him, he is actually more obsessive than Shiba even.
I'd really love more POVs from the LIs in blvns, but the difference between otome and bl is that in bl the focus is more on the protagonist and explore his personality more and the story through him and POV, he is the star of the game, while heroines are often "neglected" in a way? but in otome we are pampered a lot with the LIs which is great! I love chou no doku for equally exploring everyone and not neglecting their heroine! Seeing the heroine getting lowkey toxic and obsessive too is fun to watch. I'd like more Yomi POVs too.
If you haven't played paradise yet you can check it out! All 3 relationships are very toxic and unhealthy.

I wish Hanazawa was more explored as a character. And the schizo son in the basement.

With the excessive amounts of slang in the original version, I kinda expected it to be localized to memey in some ways. I wonder if anyone has read the side characters (bad) endings yet in the localized version. Those were peak comedy. Hougou acts like a massive creep because he's forced to while Shimada gives Azuma his special wocky slush
>>46704998

Cage-School- took only like an hour to complete and it still nearly filtered me lel. The point of this game eludes me. Guess I expected gag, a genre parody, or a Cage parody, and it had a bit of all of those, but it was mostly just a mundane sol AU. Kinda like Open's common route daydream scenes, but even more random, in a school, and only Teppei+the 4 Open LIs+Ohno (for whatever reason, talk about random) existing.

But since I already came this far, if anyone has the 2018 complete version that also has the Close characters I would be really grateful if you could share.

>I'd rather the MC not suffer at all, but that might be asking for too much.
There has to be at least a little bit of MC suffering for the drama, but there is still varying levels of suffering. That being said, of the games I've played Cupid Parasite and Radiant Tale are pretty soft in terms of LIs (the meanest of each are tsunderes). Each MC goes through some suffering in these games, but it's not constant (and in some cases it's the LI that suffers much more), it's moreso route-specific obstacles. Cafe Enchante also has nice MCs, though it has some stronger angst. Even if Tempest has extreme mc suffering, but all of the LIs are nice.

Okay, I'm done Amnesia. At least the routes I wanted to do.
My favourite ending was the one where Toma takes over Ukyo's route to put the mc in a cage after killing(?) the fanclub members. The other endings involving the LIs usually happened within their respective containment world (aside from Ukyo hopping worlds for plot purposes), but Toma just couldn't stay in his own lane. It was a nice way to show that no matter which world Toma's in he's ready to bring out the cage. His route was mediocre to me though. It felt so short and nothing really happens other than the cage shenanigan. Almost felt too tame even.
I found Kent's spiels amusing and somewhat adorable, but I don't know how much of that is because of his Ishida buff.
I liked the overall setup for Ukyo's route, but found his defense mechanism alter ego kinda cringe. At least the original Ukyo is cute and super direct about his feelings for the mc. Also it's nice that the route doesn't dismiss the existence of the other worlds despite being the 'true' route.
Orion best bug. His tsukkomis were fun, it really wouldn't have been the same without him. Otome MCs who tsukkomi as much as he does?
Overall, it was a decent experience and I don't regret going back to play it.

Probs won't get to them any time soon but are the fandiscs worth playing at all?

Thanks, I'll play Cupid Parasite and Cafe Enchante then. Radiant Tale had some pretty nice LIs. What happens in Even If Tempest? It better not be some gay shit like the MC being raped/kidnapped. Mainly why I tend to avoid media with suffering female characters is because it's almost always due to rape/sexual assault and I'm tired of seeing that shit everywhere.
>>
Any (preferably BL) VN with an all-male staff targeted at males, where all the characters are male, and females don't play any role in the story and aren't even mentioned? Bonus points if females don't even exist in-universe, and super bonus points if the writing avoids kanji containing the "女" element.

None of that in the main game (to the mc at least, it's implied to have happened to a mentioned npc). Fandisc has attempted SA in one of the routes, but it's only for a moment before it's stopped.

>>
>>46729407
> Almost felt too tame even.
Toma's route tends to be exaggerated for the sake of memes, he's really not that extreme (comparatively).

Hell, when I replayed the game recently I didn't even think the cage was that unjustified given that from Toma's POV the heroine was acting like a complete retard throwing herself into danger by walking around outside 'alone' even though she'd already been harassed/threatened and nearly threatened like 3 times.

> Are the fandiscs worth playing at all?
I'd say so, there's one thats more actual sequel stories and one thats mostly just fluff/interesting scenarios, you can get two of them (Later and Crowd) on the switch, and theres also World but I don't think that ones translated yet.

Thanks to the anon who suggested playing through even if Tempest for Tyril. I'm not done yet, but he's a very good boy. Hearing all the times the english text invents a nicer version of what he's saying or just drops lines is great.

It's from Matsuda's side story in the Musubi fandisk, yeah. Basically a continuation from his "good" end where both him and Azuma find out the entire incident in the main game is entirely Takara and his family's doing. Unsurprisingly, Takara was the one who actually killed Kibo. His death was part of what escalated the whole group distrust in Matsuda since he did beat the shit out of Kibo for being a dishonest fat fuck.
Anyway, after Takara does the whole 黒幕 reveal and fucks off, Matsuda breaks down crying as he was ridden with extreme guilt from mistakenly thinking that he killed Kibo after the incident. From everything Matsuda did and Azuma having to console him everytime (including times when he'd cry in his sleep) it's somewhat cathartic.

The Musubi FD feels a lot more vanilla where it does more comedy/SOL but it's nice to read about the other character's backstories and their POVs.
>>
>>46802151
>>46808626
I'm wondering this as well because the only context in which I could somewhat understand this choice is if it was some Gegege no kitaro reference or something along those lines.
>>
>>46818254
Call me a brainlet, but after playing the game there's something I still don't understand. Is Matsuda just a fucking psychopath that puts on a mask of normalcy? Is that why he loves to beat people up and won't apologize to Azuma?.
Looking forward to the fandisk if they ever decide to translate that too.
>>
>>46818254
Half the purpose of Musubi was to smooth over/explain some of the characters' controversial moments yeah. I kind of wonder how much of this was pre-planned and how much was Pil/Slash begging the writer to please add some sugar after they got negative/confused feedback about the characters. Paradise does feel very incomplete without Musubi story-wise too of course.

>>46820503
He just has wifebeater/tyrant tendencies since childhood, beating up other kids to impose his way. He learned to repress and control this as he matured to become a responsible manager type, but the abnormal stressful situation he was in made him go back to his brat mindset out of frustration.

He's definitely not a psychopath or sociopath though, he does have empathy and guilt about his dark urges and he's fundamentally well-meaning. IIRC his POV retelling mentions he knows he fucked up beating Azuma but he couldn't help enjoy it. As for Kido or Shimada he just hit them because he felt it was necessary and maybe to vent.
>>
Do we learn more about Shimada? I think Shimadas the true psychopath.
I wonder if in Musubi the 4 dudes stay alive I liked Kido.
>>
>>46820880
Shimada gets the most background and stuff in Kiwame, but yeah, he's probably the most amoral and remorseless after Takara

Half his dialog is hilarious shit because of that
Shimada: yeah so I roofied her and sold her to the yakuza boss and
Azuma: you WHAT
He's not just clueless either, he trolls Azuma constantly.

But even he gets a rather sweet AU version of events in Musubi where he just has a nice chat and doesn't actually drug-rape Azuma, he does get off peeping on Matsuda beating him though
>>
Finished Paradise this morning. I liked the bad end where Azuma goes delusional and kills everyone the most. Azuma was my favorite overall, though Matsuda was my favorite voice and appearance wise out of the main boys. His romance was nonsense but beating Azuma into PTSD induced shrieking was great. I did like Mitsugi as well. Takara's good end made me briefly wonder about getting a refund for a game I spent 20+ hours in but his bad ends were uncomfortable in a good way so I guess the trade off is worth it.

So the original Cage-School- kinda left me baffled, but Kanzenban was pretty nice. I think pic related was the moment I truly warmed up to it. Maybe my brain has melted somewhere along the way but I found Teppei spending most of Ishimatsu's ending just mentally monologing about how outrageously lame his bike is genuinely funny as fuck. Yeah... I also appreciated that the title theme played exactly one time, and that was on Saiki's route. I'll take that as L&D's acknowledgement that Cage without Saiki is not Cage at all, because that's the truth. The Open routes had some minimal rewrites, nothing drastic but they improved some of the sol scenes that suffered most from being dryer than the Sahara. That said, I was looking forward to rereading Teppei's feminine whining over being a social reject now that there are 8 guys more than happy to hang out, but ha, they actually just replaced that scene (with something even more melodramatic). Can't tell if this was part of the joke, but what the fuck, zoomer Teppei is not even a tiny bit homophobic. So weird. Uncanny even. Not muh Teppei.
Also I had a revelation:
>鳴き声みたくなっとるやん
Oh. Hell. I went through two whole ass games without getting this. The nickname, "キツネみたいな名前", taming the fox, etc etc. コンコン. Ha ha.. God fucking damn I'm dumb.

I don't really understand why it allows mxing and matching character scenes since about half of the routes have a clear arc that won't make a lick of sense if you start skipping scenes and you always end up on someone's route in the end, but watever. For science this is the Teppeibowl tiebreaker:
Kujo > Nitta > Yoshimoto > Yagasaki > Oohira > Kurusu > Saiki > Ishimatsu > Maki
By the way, Kujo. The new artstyle totally butchered his OG School sprite. It's brutal. Poor guy. I also dislike that they stopped drawing Nitta with corpse white skin. Still pretty pale here though. And far better than that fuckawful Remake sprite.

I feel almost the exact same, though I think Azuma is just the right amount of retarded that I can believe him still falling for Matsuda even after being raped by him. But goddamn Takara's route is so fucking bad, and I was so excited for him after seeing what a chad he was in Matsuda's route.

You can more or less think of Matsuda as a bratty child struck in a grown man's body instead of someone truly psychopathic/sociopathic as anon mentioned.
It's been mentioned a few times but Paradise does write Matsuda and Mitsugi as polar opposites at its core. Both twisted people who essentially operate differently with how they approach problems and the way they treat their relationships with others. Unlike Mitsugi, Matsuda easily breaks down under stress, mistrusts everyone around him including Azuma and is often unwilling to compromise. On a side note, it's pretty funny how a number of the CGs/official art has Mitsugi getting annoyed at Matsuda in particular.

>>46850925
>If Azuma wasn't there
Yeah, after reading Matsuda's bit in Musubi, I kinda wondered if there ever was an Ogino route where he actually did manage to invite Azuma out instead of being led on to that booby trap tour. Probably Matsuda would get turned by Mitsugi instead maybe. A lot of his reasoning for him wanting to fuck Azuma at first is mostly physical after all. The artist for Paradise also seems to ship Matsuda/Mitsugi together for some reason??
Actually I think after Azuma, Mitsugi might be the second most attractive guy in the tour group. At least according to Azuma since he always talks about Mitsugi's nice smell and how elegant/beautiful he looks in contrast to his gross habits.
>>
>>46851028

I'm still not sold on Azuma being the most fuckable guy in there. I'd kill Mitsugi but he's objectively sexier, even when he's being a total slob. Playing Paradise made me play mashou megane. It's peak kino. Paradises artist, like her art better in mashou. It's smoother, maybe because it's an otome. Cidre is mitsugi, but way more autistic and a necro. Doutei is a split persona mix of a toned down Matsuda and Azuma. Peach is Azuma (shares his va) but more perverted. And Oujisama is Shimada but more wicked. Wish Oujisama had a full route...we were robbed. Pretty short game I still miss a few endings I'm going to 100%. I love pil. I love the heroine, both her meek cute personality and the schizoslut version.

How are pils other two otome games?
>>
Since it was brought up here a while back and people did talk about hooking emulated games, has anyone tried using LunaTranslator to hook PS3 games? Any success?
https://github.com/HIllya51/LunaTranslator/blob/main/README_en.md
Sorry if this seems off topic. I dunno where else to ask for constructive answers.
>>
>>46858580
Agent doesn't hook it? If you want a specific game to hook you can request or commission for a script hook if it's for agent. Now Luna you can ask the developer, they helped me before with a script. Open an issue on their github but you need to be specific about the issues you have + might need to provide the game.
>>
>>46857275
>>46857524
Wasn't that interested, but it looks very promising.
>>
>>46858739
Thanks for the input, anon. I appreciate it! Yeah, asking the Luna dev and also probably the Agent devs was gonna be the next step.
I did speak to a few people at the Agent discord about another otome game before but I figured I'd just ask here first out of curiosity. I wasn't so sure about Agent's compatibility since I didn't see any RPCS3 related scripts available.
>>
>>46858882
Np anon wish I could be more helpful tho! I never tried hooking an ps3 game before, but I did a ps2 one and did manage to hook it with luna but it had a few issues like dumb text repeated lines and I don't know how to fix these. This was when luna had first come out didn't test again. What I did basically is search for a hook automatically. Had to repeate it 2 times but did manage to find one. Didn't have luck with a ds game.
>>
>>46858922
Nice, I will try that for other games and if this works on my end at some point. For Luna, the window is just completely blank when hooked to the emulator. I figured I could try hooking the unity version of the game but aaaa it also didn't work on my end, sure sucks being tech illiterate. Anyway thanks again!
>>
>>46858996
>Unity version
Agent makes some unity scripts iirc! You can request a hook from the luna dev or some textractor forks might do the job. Unity should be easier compared to an emulator.
>>
Cage-Fool- was, well, an April's Fool comedy game. Probably its biggest surprise was that it didn't actually take place on April 1st, instead it remained a dumb but otherwise somewhat plausible Open route. More plausible than CARNAVALE at least. I can't really speak for Paradise's translation 100% besides seeing what others have shown but I don't remember the main game's Japanese script being particularly heavy with pop culture references. On the other hand, it's quite big on colloquialism and more modernized words iirc. I had consult Google, Yahoo!知恵袋, etc for some of those.
The most notable "memes" I saw so far were actually from the Musubi FD. ex. Azuma referencing the infamous Schrodinger's cat and quoting Muhammad Ali

Heh, so nothing like Kurusu penetrating Teppei with an アムロ、行きまーす! war cry, gotcha.
I don't really want to get into translation theory or what the fuck, not for a game I didn't play in either language, and not when I lack the mastery and the reading experience to make any objectavive statements about any Japanese author's writing skills. But sometimes translating something is not about whether you can, but whether you should. At least for me when much of what makes a work so good is rooted in its use of language (because of word plays, some kind of dialect or sociolect, clever use of kanji, etc) then imho you lose too much, no matter how skilled the translator was. That was not a work meant to be enjoyed by anyone other than the original target audience. I'm not saying L&D falls into this category, I guess it's more in that grey area like Ace Attorney or Suda's games where the translation may or may not work, but the quality is going to take a hit no matter what.
But if the original was not a meme-fest then doing a meme translation is just a fucking shitty thing to do, period.
>>
>>46862916
Men are the reason we get oyaji and no shota
>>
>>46867840
Honestly, I agree with many of your points. It can't be disputed how the original text gives a far more different experience, no matter how well or accurate a translation is. It's a sort of thing that can feel rather inorganic in a way.
Since I became far more serious in understanding Japanese, there is a lot to appreciate about the language's subtleties. It's difficult to explain precisely but Japanese simply convey certain ideas and emotions in a more intricate, impactful way which will never be translated adequately in another language. In contrast to English, Japanese is highly contextual and often does not repeat itself with pronouns and/or the main subject. IMO this really works well to its advantage by creating a certain type of environment and mood which isn't easily achievable anywhere else. An example is when L&D describes Azuma's emotional state within a "gradiant". This is particularly noticable when a certain person Azuma truly respects Matsuda first commits rape/violence to him and cold blooded murder right in front of his face (within a certain ending) - latter being particularly very gory despite not having a CG. The fact that the writing also artfully omits the guy's identity as a way to intensify Azuma's shock is a sort of thing that really gave a huge impression on me.
But yeah, as someone who loves the Metal Gear Solid games and as well as Suda51's work + the Ace Attorney games for their English localizations, I get what you mean. I figured it's always gonna be judged on a case by case basis in the event where the translation can actually work with the work's setting and be appreciated for what it is despite all the glaring discrepancies.

Ahh, I want to get there too. You know, for years I was scraping by with what knowledge I had, but Cage pushed me to finally get back to intensive studying. Splitting what free time I had between the two was an experience, but I badly wanted to be able to grasp it better. That was a very valuable routine, but I still have an awful long way to go. If all goes well I want to take the N1 this winter. I can already tell that even that won't be enough though. So maybe in a year's time. That will be a good time to play Paradise, I think.
A thing I really appreciated in Cage was how the style would subtly shit to accommodate each route. Yoshimoto's for example was unusually dense with onomatopoeia and simple descriptions that emphasized sensations. The whole experience was terribly visceral. Yagasaki's meanwhile very quickly shifted into a more literary style with some more "highbrow" vocabulary you hardly ever encountered on any other route. It had the most hazy, dreamlike atmosphere of them all. There's a scene on this route that I particularly loved, when Yagasaki asks Teppei to read out 天鵞絨, 瀟洒, and finally 文博, and Teppei bungles all three of them. There is so much implied in this one scene.
Teppei mistaking these kanji, or in the last case reading, for common ones that he learned in secondary education has some bittersweet undertones when you later learn that Fumi-kun chose the date of the promise assuming that Teppei would go into higher education and graduate around that time. Not even recognizing Fumihiro as a name even though Yagasaki already told him just drives it home how thoroughly he was forgotten, and hits even harder on Master because of course Teppei's Fumi was Fumio, not Fumihiro. Just total oblivion. It's a wonderful scene, but not one that you can just port over to English and have it land the same.

Its okay, there are parts I really enjoy and other parts not so much. It drags on for too long sometimes and the sci-fi stuff can get retarded. Even as a bad end enjoyer I became fatigued with how ZETSUBOU the game is, so take a break if you try it out and feel the same way instead of pushing through. The game is kinda long anyway.

Most of the boys are loveable (one sucks in his own route but I like him in the others routes), art/backgrounds are visually very pleasing. The dynamic between the main guys is pretty enjoyable too.
>Okitsu
I feel like he tends to play side characters in otome but he does have a few main characters like in yoshiwara higanbana/oz mafia/reine des fleurs. He was really perfect for Ankou...

Damn didn't think I'd be able to find them, this one was a bit tricky. Haven't checked what's inside so have fun and report back if you find something interesting anon.

For fun, here's thread #51 from Sept 2014. Using this you can reliably go back to the first ever /blog/ thread if you want. Some of the mediafire links shared back then surprisingly still work. I love reading old /blog/ when I finish a VN that came out during its lifetime.

I'm really having a hard time getting through Tengoku Struggle. Normally I can get through these games pretty quick, but I find myself leaving the game for like, weeks at a time after only playing a little bit. I've only just started the third route so far.

Anyone else just kind of bored as they went through it?

Learning seriously Japanese did end up being a very valuable experience for me as well even if its usefulness is a bit debatable in my career. Although it could be true that working adults are at a disadvantage in learning foreign languages, I felt like it worked out better on my end compared to the past when I had more time. My time management skills/discipline really wasn't at great before getting invested into Japanese. But yeah, even though my understanding in the language has improved, I also have a long way to go. For me, it's just too easy to feel confident at one point but once again feel stupid after reading something else shortly after and/or trying to test myself.
Though, I suppose it's natural to struggle and feel bothered while trying to learn something, can't really learn anything without pain after all. I figured I could also take N1 by the end of the year to get those credentials but it's hard to feel 100% confident when my comprehension, especially with my knowledge in pure kana still needs plenty of work. Probably another year for me too, yeah.
Tbh it's only until after reading Paradise in JP, things actually started to become way more comfortable because I did struggle reading through it. While the game's plot is fairly simplistic by itself, I really didn't think interpreting the actual writing style was that simple, especially if I genuinely wanted to get a solid understanding of the little things. The huge amounts of slang and pure kana can be a headache to parse since I wasn't using anything else as an aid besides dictionary/search engine lookups, of course. Mitsugi's dialogue was probably the most difficult out of them all. On the flipside, he always had the most fun ways to piss off Azuma.
When I look back at it, I'm glad I chose a L&D work like Paradise to learn. All that heavy colliquism was useful at improving attentiveness since it was a lot of white noising the details for me before. Besides the great characterization, character interactions and black comedy, Paradise's writing style is definitely one of its strongest points - the pure viscerality in the descriptions is peak. Actually kinda amazing how L&D are two writers who could work so well together.
While I have not read the Cage series yet, I have no doubt I will definitely enjoy it for similar things as well. It's thanks to the 感想 from you and the other anons here that I got into the BL genre again after so many years, really.

Learning Japanese just VN Is probably a waste (though I 'm happy I got to read some shit that never will get TL like Kintouka) but if you read manga it's absolutely useful , way so much shit comes out that will probably never see the light of the day in eng or you are at the whims of TL that may drop it at any point.
>>
>>46893901
Well, learning Japanese feels more like a journey instead of meeting a true endpoint for me right now. There are a lot of things I want to play and read besides VNs, sure but knowing JP is just part of appreciating the art. At this point, it's a bit too bland to read anything in English. I don't know, maybe it's because my native tongue is English and it always happened to be my least favorite subject at school.
>>
>>46893889
We are pretty much in the same boat. You just learn to make do with what free time you get. For example one thing that worked for me while I was learning the N1 kanji was keeping a running list of the ones I've already learned, just write the kanji on a piece f paper and nothing else. By the end I had two pages of nothing but row after row of kanji, so every day when I commute or have some downtime during work I take it out, pick a row, and start reciting them one by one. It's brain dead drilling, but hey, it works, and leaves me with more time to read when I'm home.
>I figured I could also take N1 by the end of the year to get those credentials but it's hard to feel 100% confident
No, don't worry about that, whether you pass or not is irrelevant if you don't need the paper. I failed the JLPT before, it doesn't matter. It's just that following the JLPT curve is actually effective since it gives you tangible goals to work toward, and setting a faux-deadline helps to not lose focus.

>It's thanks to the 感想 from you and the other anons here that I got into the BL genre again after so many years, really
It's nice that someone other than us enjoyed it too, because it was super fun for me.
It's my eternal shame that I brought that discussion to an abrupt halt because even after repeated attempts I couldn't fucking make my mind up about how I interpreted two of the more ambiguous endings. Fucking Cage and its 理解不能 endings god fucking damn it to hell they drive me insane.

Seconding you anon. Matsuda was such a well written schizo rapechad it just made me hate Slow Damage even more by comparison. Madarame has no personality or motivationhe's just a boring and ugly beating machine. Matsuda however is a great character and it's completely believable why he acts the way he does, when he switches it's actually kinda scary and funny at the same time cause he's so unpredictable. Madarame by comparison was boring as shit and drier than a wooden board.

Can't agree more anon. Madarame, Mink, Shiki. They have interesting and appealing designs but they are just empty shells. Just a rape command prompt. Nothing else. Zenya and Makoto were at least interesting schizos and can justify their actions due to the meats pheromones lol. Other than that Youji was so miserable the least thing I was thinking at was him getting dick. Give that man a box of chocolates and tampax and let him chill. Kabura sucks at writing in general. But other than that you can still enjoy nitro games if you want something generic to pass time. Slow damage being 60 hrs long though is ridiculous. Could reduce it to 40hrs.
Meanwhile, pilslash kinoschizo rapechads.
Takara, Matsuda, August, Riku, Shuuhei, even the underwear pervert and the pigeon blood rapecels. All of them make sense. All of them have based writing. All of them are unjustifiable rape apes that you can't hate. They are creeps scary but funny at the same time.
>>
>>46898808
Nakajo Rosa wrote one of the pigeon blood rapecels kek. And speaking of nakojo her rapechads are as based. Senge and Tademaru. I loved Tademaru. Arcadia and Satsujin better have based rapechads.
>>
Taku wasn't that bad, speaking of schizos desu. His writing and reasons were retarded tho not denying that.
What was unforgivable in slow damage was true end and Fujieda. Nah fuck Fujieda seriously.
>>
>>46898908
Its been a while since I played slow damage, what was the problem with Fujieda?
>>
>>46898908
Fujieda is a generic blank slate self-insert protagonist turned into an LI. It's funny.
>>
>>46898808
Kek at Youji, for real. It's a shame the nitro game with the best rapechads (even if it's because of frankly, uncomplicated reasons like da meat made me do it) is such a depressionfest that you don't even get to enjoy it really, I just felt bad for Youji too for all the weird ass shit happening to him. For real, maybe all the historic rapechad hate is the fault of nitro and their boring-ass rapecels with shit writing. Paradise is such a breath of fresh air I didn't know I could enjoy seeing Azuma get beat so much, honest props to love&des. An abusable sexo mc and three schizos unconsensually touching him? Based as shit. Nitro protags don't even come close, not even Towa who's supposed to be into it. I honestly didn't even believe his schtick about being a whore, he just looked like an anorexic emo ana-chan. Azuma does the DV victim slut role better.
>>
Is Taisho x Alice a fun/light-hearted game? I've been playing too many serious games back to back, even the non /blog/ ones, so I'm looking for something funny or relaxing.
>>
>>46899118
Couldn't have worded it better anon. Towa had a based design but this emo BPD anachan cigs and booze only 90s behavior was a huge turn off. And that's his whole personality. And occasionally getting random tsun mood swings and still not enjoying sex! No one in the nitro chiral universe enjoys sex. Only Aoba and maybe Konoe but they are still unsexy and unwilling at first.
Azuma curses himself for jizzing a gallon everytime the 3 bastards go ape rape on him but it's funny how he initiated everything himself to begin with. He is so sexy. All pilslash protagonists are. From the purest, Michael to the sluttiest Azuma. They are based, cute and love anal sex. That's why I don't get chiral like what's the point? Why bother playing a bl game when the protagonist is so unwilling to have sex in all the routes? Don't make it a bl in the first place. I understand being unwilling at first, but he keeps going.
>>
>>46898917
This.
>>46898924
And turned off by the homeless mob.
>>
Anons would have liked Fujieda if he was Towas long lost brother.
>>
>>46899940
I don't think any reveal of that nature could top dramatical murder
>>
>>46899508
For the most part yes. It has some more serious things towards the end of the routes, but the bulk of it is them being retards
>>
>>46899940
I bet that was the original intended storyline anyway. The shit with Towa and his sister was convoluted and made no sense, it would have been more impactful if she hadn't been there and it was Towa all along.

That's what I'd say if slow damage wasn't just a half-assed copy of no thank you and Fujieda wasn't a worse version of Ryu.
>>
>>46899744
>Why bother playing a bl game when the protagonist is so unwilling to have sex in all the routes?
Absolutely, this is the curse of nitro and their games. Even with their supposed whore mc they still made dislike sex except for the most cliché "I'm drugged so now I'm horny" scene. Azuma doesn't need drugs to be a horny turboslut and he was literally asking for it. I kekked when I played Matsuda's route and Azuma was basically willing to fuck him from moment 1 and Matsuda STILL raped him, it was hilarious kino. I really need to play the other pil/slash games, mcs who love sex are honestly just superior. Towa never again, his personality was as boring as any of the LIs except when he was being edgy and cutting himself while jerking off. Probably the only time he actually enjoyed himself.

Yeah, I do similar drills during mornings before I go to work and downtime. For my usual routine, I'd repetitively write down vocabulary and unfamiliar kanji in a notepad app/program or on a piece of a paper as a way to quiz myself. It might be braindead and all but repetitive practice is a tried and true method to learn many skills in general.
Besides while in the office, sometimes I would even do this at home as I read VNs as a "warm up" to get engaged and also write down notes after each reading session, especially about words or grammar I don't fully understand. I did this a lot for Paradise, which helped tons for my memory since I can also review my notes the day after when I'm at work and the context itself is still fresh in my mind. But when I actually do get into the zone to read, I try to keep a good flow going on with an inner monologue in Japanese by recognizing the readings as much as I can. For me, if I can't recite the vocabulary's reading then don't know the word at all, even if I do understand the meaning in English and/or just simply recognizing any of the kanji as visual aids to clue me in.

Here's one thing I wrote down while reading Paradise. Matsuda's route (one of the scenes that predates to a bad end) - Azuma starts talking in his monologue about how impressed he was with Takara when he stood up to Matsuda's violence. He compares that chutzpah to himself.
そんな姿を見てたら、ビビリの性根がちょっとだけ奮い立った。
根性はねえよ。でも、ないならないなりの行動ができるははずだ。

性根=しょうこん
根性=こんじょう

These words are quite distinctive from each other so it's funny how readings can also mean differently with just a simple kanji order switch. It still confuses me so just writing about parts of the scene helped. On a side note, 外人 (がいじん) and 人外 (じんがい) is yet another one of my favorites.

>It's just that following the JLPT curve is actually effective since it gives you tangible goals to work toward, and setting a faux-deadline helps to not lose focus.
That makes sense. Ever since I got invested, I was aiming for solely N1 since I heard job opportunities I'm interested in aren't interested with anything less but I'm definitely at a position where I don't need any credentials right away. I haven't took any real exams in years so I'll have to prepare myself mentally as well and go back to reading about standardized exams. Failing sucks but at least you got experience with the testing. I heard N1 is pretty difficult. Guess for any sort of official testing, I figured it's not only your knowledge being tested but on how to take them.

That's totally fine for me, can always come back to it later when you have a better understanding. I think it's already great to see more constructive impressions here, especially about VNs which barely gets discussions in the first place. IMO sharing thoughts and having discussions are the most important things which keeps the hobby alive even if the future may not be the brightest so I'm really glad to see you guys talk about the Cage in depth.

I'm playing Paradise and I really like it! I started Moshikami too but the emulator is acting up so I'll have to wait for an update. It doesn't load the sprites properly.

Looking forward to Arcadia, Ooe and Tokyo Satsujinki. From otome Qualia and Distorted Code.

My backlog is huge, but I want to go back to Yoshiwara Higanbana, mebiusline, nie no machi, dystopia no ou and sweet clown. I'll probably play Paradise kiwame and musubi though.

After installing the game, you need to go in the resources folder and extract "app.asar" to an "app" folder in the same directory. You can use this to do it https://github.com/aardio/WinAsar

Afterwards, hook it to Agent and run the Tyrano script from the drop-down list. This method runs all Tyrano games that can't be hooked with Textractor.
>>
>>46905895
>What are you playing/have you played recently?
I'm also playing paradise and having a blast, will definitely play Musubi and Kiwame next too, though maybe I'll slip Tokyo Satsujinki in the middle. I can't believe I never played the game when it came out because some friend hated it and told me in a hundred different ways how it was bad. It's funny as fuck and the black comedy parts are amazing. Even the actual bad parts like Takara's route don't bother me because it feels like the route is making fun not only of Azuma but also you, the player, and I love that shit kek. Learned my lesson about listening to other people.

>What are you looking forward to?
Tokyo Satsujinki and Ooe whenever she's ready with it, hopefully it still comes out this year. Arcadia I've got my eye on but I'll wait for anons' opinions on here before I decide to buy it or not, school settings really aren't my thing.

The Shitoku no Gyokuza writer is also working on a new game and I'm definitely interested in it too, she's my favorite schizo doujinka at the moment.

>What's on your backlog (anything that you're reasonably likely to actually pick up sometime soon)?
After my unchangeable BL backlog consisting of playing Shingakkou around Christmas but never getting to it and thus being unable to start it at any other time of the year, between paradise's FDs I want to play Uwanariuchi no Nanananuka. I remember it being discussed here a while ago and it was on my radar, plus paradise made me miss some schizo doujinka writing à la Love&Des. Hopefully it's interesting.
>>
>>46905860
>What are you playing/have you played recently?
I went back to Olympia Soiree to finish the routes I hadn't touched. I was initially the least interested in Kuroba's route but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It might be my favourite route so far. Himuka is up next.
>What are you looking forward to?
I'm excited to find out more about Over Requiemz, and also curious about Natsuzora no Monologue too.
>What's on your backlog (anything that you're reasonably likely to actually pick up sometime soon)?
I'm gonna go back to Shinigami to Shoujo and Shingakkou, in that order. I've been consciously trying to focus on playing one game at a time, since the number of unfinished games can get out of hand otherwise. So I shan't think about the myriads of other games I'm interested in.
>>
>>46906016
Yeah I don't understand the "paradise is a bad game" too. I get it if they don't like abusive noncon dubcon LIs in general like all of them are red flags but I don't think that it's a bad game overall. The true route and revelation is a little retarded but like you said pretty troll fun and can't say that it ruins the game. Other than that I personally really like the psychological thriller elements, seeing them breaking down or going mad, showing the worst of themselves. And I like the LIs, literally trauma and fetish bonding in a life and death situation and I like the fact that there are 2 fandisks and 2 dramacds after that. Nice really! Azuma is perfect best protaginist I've seen so far in a bl game. No wonder he topped Gian in cool b poll.

School settings ain't my thing too, but I'm the type of person you consumes every bl that comes out haha. Stopped doing that with otome though because too pricey to buy 2 new games each month but with bl it's fine, we get what 5 games ever 3 years a d localized ones cheaper compared.

Based Unica! Thanks for the news anon!
Shingakkou is a must. Doesn't matter desu wherever you play it. Only the prologue is set on Christmas.

>>46906032

The true route and revelation is a little retarded but like you said pretty troll fun and can't say that it ruins the game.
Absolutely, the entire game is almost 100% trolling you already with the fact that Azuma is already willing (rare!) and yet the entirety of the 3 LIs manage to rape him. Like an anon upthread put succintly, it's borderline prison gay. The bad ends with Hongou and Shimada had me rolling on the floor, definitely a good game just for those scenes. Lychee is so fucking funny.

Personally, when it comes to the psychological thriller aspect I was expecting something more meaty like them being stuck on the island for longer and all of them slowly going insane à la Lord of the flies, I love stories where people try to create a rudimentary society in survival situations and it slowly breaks down. Though I'll admit Matsuda speedran that shit kek his route was my favorite because of that. It's no kamige but it's megafun and Azuma is a great mc, so happy there's so much side content. He does indeed remind me of Gian a bit.

Did you play Shitoku, anon? I'm still reeling from this game even though it's gonne be 2 years I've played it, it was one of the most surreal experiences I've ever had and I deeply loved it, so much sovl. Crazy bastard she is.

The Paradise Musubi fandisk. I've been getting way too distracted by other things so going through it has been glacially slow. Though, reading Matsuda's after story and his POVs really made me appreciate him more as a character. He truly is best boy, there really isn't anything quite like Matsuda. I feel like a lot of people who hate Paradise just didn't get him at all and misunderstood the writers' intentions.

Yes that's what I remember too but since takara was deep in shit maybe it was revealed that he poisoned him or something to try to frame him. Glad anons thought it was funny. I was only being facetious about the request of course but I do hope to see more Paradise fanwork now that it's been gaining popularity overseas. Matsuda is precious.
Great work on the silly meme edit as the others mentioned. >>46914524 Hopefully pic related is good enough cringe. I haven't fully read though Musubi or Kiwame yet to get more things to shitpost about

I really love Mitsugi but he needs more bullying[/spoler]

I can't decide honestly. Maybe Seri or the school nurse, I like how they looks the most. Hopefully good 感想 comes soon enough at the game's release so we can get a better idea about the characters.

I assume the teacher is gonna either be a secret route, a bad ending or the true ending (doubtful). I wish they had released a demon like the other VN that releases the same day (odd timing desu), are you not playing it day one?

Awesome work anon, I'm fucking hooting

I'd have sex with Matsuda myself desu

Gotta say, if otome games featured villainesses as frequently as light novels would have you believe, I wouldn't be playing the genre much.
>>
>>46932795
I don't get the obsession with trying to make another female character important. Obviously the villains would be male as well.
>>
>>46932795
I really don't like villainesses and isekais at at all. I'd rather have school settings. I like historical ones mostly so I don't have an issue finding otome games to play. But I wouldn't like otome adopting this much desu.

Breezed through the Newcomer and Summer performances, its fun so far and I really like the songs they perform. It feels a bit like a coming of age manga. I'll probably play other games in-between each route since I have heard its a long game and I'm already using this to recover from another burnout. Kisa is super cute btw she makes me want to root for her

What's the best and worst bl/ otome that you played?
>>
>>46941594
Worst otome was period cube for me. The story was completely non sensical and the main character was even more idiotic than the normal otome heroine. “Online “game”? What’s that?” type of obnoxiousness. All of the love interests were completely boring 2d cut out characters. Even the npc yandere twist was extremely forced.

>Art is complete shit
>Characters are boring
>Plot is uninteresting
>Routes are garbage
>MC is a thoughtless normalfag that has no chemistry with anyone
>In fact the above is so bad that the autist even had his character REMOVED in his route because the MC didn't know how to react or speak to him
>Trudge through it for the promise of a brother character
>"Brother" is actually just some entity that pretended to be your brother for a few years, all he does is dump exposition then die
0/10 may your soul burn in hell
Personal favorite is Taisho Alice
>>
>>46944047
I didn't even do the brothers route, I ended up getting depressed after seeing Toa's 'true' ending where it turns out he was one of the zombie monster things, since he was one of the only LI's I actually liked.

Though I found it quite funny that in Isora's route the main guide to getting the best ending is to just shut up and do exactly what the creepy yandere man tells you because he's absolutely right.

Stopped playing this game when the “bad guy” in a route unironically started laughing like a mustache twirling Saturday morning cartoon villain complete with a “muahahahaha!”

Does Matsuda count as yandere? I don't think so. That's why eops shouldn't be adding tags. Takara does though.

For me it's 蝶の毒華の鎖 solely because of 真島

Probably Sweet Volley High, this one yuri/otome OELVN I played just for the hell of it years ago when I didn't know Japanese at all and was starved for anything 18+ in the genre. Not even worth it for the sex scenes if it's gonna be drawn mediocre and have the guy's face blocked out anyway. It has DV but it's not interesting in the slightest, feels more like shallow and petty bullshit the usual failure at life would bring out as drama to blame others. Maybe I'm being harsh on an indie developer's work but if doujin circles can make good shit out of zero budget so can western ones.
>>
>>46946948
Probably because of the bad ending where Matsuda kills everyone except Azuma because nobody, including himself, can trust anyone. He figured if Azuma at least trusts him, they can make it out together on the island if everyone else goes away. Of course that didn't happen.
Though, pretty much everything that is holding Matsuda together somewhat in his route is because of Azuma leaning on him. Matsuda also shows huge fixation/possessiveness over Azuma, especially whenever his mental state descends to a downward spiral. I don't know if any of that is strictly defined as yandere behavior, though.
>>
>>46946948
I thought he's supposed to be an anti-yandere. Like Azuma thinks that he flipped out and went nuts but the entire point is that Matsuda has always been Matsuda and it just took a specific set of circumstances to manifest that part of his personality. Even he says it when he asks Azuma how much he knows about his neighbour and that he's probably a psycho. My husbando.

Takara I don't even know what he is.
>>
>>46948860
Samefag, fuck can't delete the post. Sorry for mild spoilers sisters
>>
I don't think that both Matsuda and Takara are yanderes but only haraguros They get obsessed and possessive with Azuma of course but not the typical yandere way. The only Canon yandere character from pilslash that i can think of is Shuuhei from Koibito Yuugi and maybe Ryo too. I don't know about August desu. He could but maybe more of a yangire. Haraguro tag matches them most.

>For me, if I can't recite the vocabulary's reading then don't know the word at all, even if I do understand the meaning in English and/or just simply recognizing any of the kanji as visual aids to clue me in.
Let's not forget about the worst of all: when you Lego out the reading and move on without realizing that you have no fucking clue what it even means.

>性根/根性
Oh wow that's nice. I also have a current favorite in 火花. Ran into this one pretty recently actually, and it took me multiple paragraphs to realize something was off. To be fair both conjure the same mental image, and context made the meaning clear, so it was mostly a case of "huh I had no idea 花火 could also mean that........wait what". Then there's 論理/理論, I have such a hateboner for this pair. How the FUCK are you supposed to remember which one is which? Like 凹凸/凸凹 is infamous and I don't get why because it ain't got shit on this ultra cuntish pair.

This reverse reading thing just reminded me of something from Open. Have you ever heard of ズージャ語? Well now you have! Pic related. Look at my poorfag working class boy overreact because he needs to step out of his comfort zone and go to somewhere stylish (and expensive). The slang is a super cute association he is making, you can practically hear his existential crisis. Also take note of 代姦山 (Daikanyama). Don't know if they also did this in Paradise, but Cage was full of silly puns like this. Like 死武谷, or 喪成座. Best part is that all of these are story-relevant puns!
You know, I like to talk shit about Kujo because I don't really like the character, but in retrospect I have to give credit for his route being so playful (except when it wasn't, but then it was kino, thanks Saiki). There is this thing going on in Cage where depending on which branch you land on past events shift around or change dramatically for the sake of the theme. But Kujo is this fairytale character. So his branch condition, which is how much Teppei fears him, does not change the setting, but the very genre of the route. When Teppei fears him too much and rejects him the story morphs into a tragedy (destroy), with moderate fear but also acceptance we get a Hollywood action flick (love), but zero fear and enthusiastic acceptance and reality itself breaks and the story degenerates into a fever dream of a shounen fight parody (also destroy). Despite everything it's actually pretty clever.

>can always come back to it later when you have a better understanding
Not a bad idea actually. Can't say it will definitely happen, but I'd still love to give my 2¢ about Saiki and Ishimatsu because man, they are a handful. I'd wager only L&D truly understands what really happened at the end of either's destroy route, and I sure as fuck won't be the one to solve it, but trying is still fun. And maddening.

>>46902321
Thanks anon. It was a spectacular failure on my part and I truly regret not responding to at least the more conversational parts.
>I'm glad to know you even read my reply.
Printed it out, carried it with me for weeks, put it full of notes, but I just couldn't turn it into something I was happy with. Even put off reading L&D's commentary in the 副読本 because I didn't want to be influenced by it. That still hasn't changed actually. Did skim some less important bits though.
>Nitta's design concept was "danseimuke eroge protagonist"
>be it woman, man, dog or horse, if it has a hole, Nitta would
Sasuga my favorite coomer.
Or check out this commentary of Yoshimoto's cannibal end:
>お前は犬じゃねえし、吉本だって飼い主じゃねえんだ。
>駄目な部分も全部受け入れてよ、それが愛情なんです、なんて、俺は絶対認めねえ。
>俺はテメー等二人を失う為に、テメーに吉本を頼んだわけじゃねえ。
>俺はぜったい認めねえ。
Nitta/Yoshimoto 3P.... fffffffFFFuck, I wanted that too, yeah. Even if realistically a not murder-rape bad end version of it could only happen on Yoshimoto's route. But where the fuck was the murder-rape bad end? We came so close to it in Close so many times I could almost taste it.
Also. While it never takes up much panel time, the doujins very quickly proved me wrong about a certain aversion. We have Teppei giving head twice (Yoshimoto, Kurusu), and there's also seme-bj (Nitta, Kujo). But that just makes it all the more baffling that it never, ever happened on any of the routes with any of the LIs. Nitta at some point was going to have a bj scene, but even that was cut. I don't get it.
